As a title really . How much would you be willing to pay for a horse and what would you aim to do with them/expect them to do for that money. Or how much have you payed for your current horse and what do you do with them ..

I will start ..
I have a 14.2 year old cob x 6 years old.
She is a ride and drive and when she came to me she was green but willing.
I aim to do a bit of everything with her and see where we get.
She loves hacking and jumping
I paid £1200 for her.

ok -
My mare is 16.1 Clydesdale ID X, she is 6, absolutely bombproof in traffic, she is a happy hacker (or am I??) anyway we shall spend most of the time hacking about, nosing into peoples living room windows as we go past. I am 36, and did all the jumping/competitions as a kid, so its a quiet life for me and my mare.
I paid 1100.00 for her - a bargain!!

Looking for a sane/sensible ISH/Irish horse in South East thats not a complete kick along but doesn't have to be a world beater and for a budget of 3-4K seem to only find green 5 year olds, 6 at best, or much older horses. Interested if people would concur?

i have 3
one is on loan from a charity and paid £60 fee for her shes a shetland, next one is my ridden pony a 14.2 highland who i paid 3k for 2 and a half years ago who i do fun rides and dressage with. The last and the one who cost the most is my 2 year old highland youngster who cost 3.5k so far we have come 2nd at 2 county shows and have some more big shows for the summer, this is def gonna be a show pony who has potential to go to the top.

Having lost my horse recently I was looking for something that was safe but fun, easy to do, would live out all year and had done a bit of everything as I don't have time to do loads of schooling but want to be able to do the odd local comp when I get the chance.

Two weeks ago I bought this:-

http://www.horsedeals.co.uk/horses-...nning-148cm--Allrounder-pony-__16-5-10-663139

He is lovely and I'm chuffed to bits with him. He has lovely manners, is lively but safe, been there and done it all and lives on fresh air!

I was surprised to have my first offer of £2500 accepted and at that money I think he was really good value.

my near leopard spotted appy is 3 years old. i bought him for £1700 as 2 yrs 6 months mainly for his temperment but turns out he has got amazing paces so hoping to do a lot of dressage with him and at least get to advanced medium :)
he is to make 15.2hh hopefully.

my mare cost me £1200 as a 12 year old (15hh tb)
within a few months she was valued at £3500 and i have used her as a ace dressage, sj horse. really big jump but a little frightened of jumps so she is now my dressage horse.
she is 17 now though so price has prob gone back to 1200 :P

Depends how much money I had...

My horses range from my Grand Prix horse who I was given as a 6 year old from a very strangely mental woman (I'm pleased to say)

to

I looked at a 10 grand youngster about 5 years ago who I would have bought if he hadn't failed the vet... before getting side tracked to a welshie who I bought for 2G

I paid £1900 for this:-

This fella is amazing, for the last 5 years he has been on working livery at an RDA yard, he is fantastic and absolutely anyone could ride him, your tiny tot or your granny, yet he is responsive and has done pleasure rides, RC teams, dressage, jumping etc excellent in traffic and always 100% to whoever rides him, only here as his owner took a job abroad and desperately wanted a kind home for him, no problem at all excellent box, shoe, clip. Complete Schoolmaster in every sense of the word. Very honest little horse.

I was hoping to happy hack and if I got my confidence up maybe do a bit more! I wanted a horse that had done more than I really was looking for so I could do more if I felt comfortable. If that makes sense!

Long story but the advert isn't correct - the horse has never done any of these things so I am just hoping he will be a happy hack! An expensive one at that - but I love him!:D

hi everyone!
I paid £550 for George but he was only just weaned (5 months) a sec d x irish cob and is now doing very well showing at local level hopefully to move up when he is schooled further he is now 6yrs and everyone at the yard loves him!

I paid £1200 for my TB mare as an unbacked 6 year old. Have schooled her on and done a bit of BE and hunting (she has a fantastic jump) then got sidetracked by a baby and a new business............

Hi all!

Our 14.2hh mare (no idea about breed!) was bought for £1200 (to get her from the travellers she was living with), she was in foal and a mess, very fearful but bolshy with it. (Got to add she's had so much work put into her!)
She's now 16, as youthful and fiery as ever despite everything she's been through, and we are just recovering from a bad bout of lami - so hopin' just to be able to do some in-hand local classes at the end of this season maybe :)
next year we'll start ridden classes again (fingers crossed!) at local shows, we are happy hackers, with a bit of jumping when we can!
We love her to absolute pieces and we could never ever get rid of her! :)

I paid £2,200 for my 14.2hh Highland x TB gelding. He was 10 years old, 9 years ago. He is very good in traffic and a fun hack. We have competed at riding club level dressage, prelim and novice, rarely unplaced, lots of pleasure rides.

A bargain in my opinion.

Have 3 -

1) paid £300 - just wanted a nice horse who wouldn't try to kill me everytime i tried to get on (had a very bad experience before). He had raced successfully but was very down when i got him. Started hacking which really perked him up, then started schooling him and realised that he had good paces and a huge jump. Ended up eventing up to pn (not terribly successful but had never done it before) before we found out he had spavin. This is the horse i've done everything with - hunted, galloped on the beach, evented...... He has always tried his heart out for me - worth 100 times what i paid for him as he sorted out my confidence issues. Horse of a lifetime.

2) paid £3000 - straight out of racing. Paces to die for and fantastic breeding (sadlers wells). Had 6 fantastic months with him (although could be frustrating at times) - not the most confident horse but were getting there, when he injured himself in the field. Now is a companion as is intermittently lame. Such a waste as has fantastic temperament.

3) paid £6000 (this is my absolute maximum and was terrified about spending that much on a horse). Had evented as a 5 and 6yo but not very consistent - would either win class or be eliminated (xc). This didn't worry me too much as temperament and trainability is more important to me, and i had chance to try him out sj and xc before i bought, and had no problems. Plus he was fantastic to ride, especially on the flat. I got him as an 8yo and he has been fantastic - only owned him 6 months and we have done 4 intros and a pn. Has been clear xc everytime and well within time twice. Clear sj once and 1 down 3 times. Dressage has been fab. We won our second event, and have just completed our 1st pn with a very good dressage and clear within time xc (unfortunately 3 down in sj! So just out of placings after being 3rd after dressage - costly!) how lucky am i to have 2 horses of a lifetime?!

All my previous horses have been loaned (plus had one given me) after being horseless for a while I've just bought this

http://www.freeads.co.uk/uk/equestr...section_a_pony/4426436/very-pretty-sec-a/view

bought him mainly for my daughter as even though he's only 5 he's incredibly well behaved on the ground and on LR. daughters only 4 so she's just going to potter around on the LR on him for a yearish, then I'll get her some lessons (think she's too young to listen properly now) In the meantime he's very green off the LR so I'm going to ride him (I'm only 5'1" and 9 1/2st) and hopefully in a few years well see a lovely well schooled pony perfect for first ridden??

He was a bargain at £450 Inc tack!

Blimey - I feel like I paid a lot but at the time I thought she was well worth the price! £3,000 for an ABSOLUTELY solid, safe-as-houses schoolmaster to get my confidence back on. 15.3hh, 10yo, Irish type. I aimed to do a bit of everything with her - she was only really any good for local prelim dressage, maybe about 2'6" jumping, I would have hunted her too (and been totally safe!) Sadly I broke her after eight months so I paid that much for something that for 18 months was un-rideable, took months to get back into light work (bad tendon injury) and only just last week became sound enough to have a little canter, three years and four months after her injury. She's worth pennies now and won't be sold, but I still think I found a one-in-a-million horse and my mum's horse of a lifetime - they are perfectly suited :)

I wouldn't have paid any more than £3,000 for what I was looking for, though. She was exactly what I was looking for at the time!

I paid £3000 for my Welsh Sec D, 5 years ago as a 9 year old. Absolutely solid as a rock happy hacker who does a bit of XC, western, dressage but hates coloured poles! Nervous in the school but brill in open spaces, and on the road.

In February this year, I bought a 14.3 ISH, no idea of her breeding. Broken in Ireland, sent over here December 2009. Bought her from a dealer for £2800. She had hunted and jumped but nothing else.

I have taken her to three dressage shows since I have owned her and she has come 6th, 1st and 2nd!! :) So an absolute bargin and she is only 5!!
