I personally would only insure to buy another horse rather than to the value of the current horse. So a couple of grand.
I would value your mare at anything 4.5k to 6k depending on how brave she is & how good to do.

I absolutely agree- if you can afford the premiums then put her up to about 5k but if you want to keep costs down, the value you have on her is sensible.

Hopeless on pricing eventers as I'm more dressage orientated but what a gorgeous horsey! I'd say from that pic a good 6K to find something as nice to replace her if anything happened to her. Remember the costs of travelling to find a new horse, transporting the horse back & vetting etc can soon mount up & you don't want it eating into your budget for a horse if your were unlucky enough to lose her.

Problem with putting up her insurance is that your premiums will absolutely skyrocket. My lad's not done as much as your girl (who is absolutely lovely by the way - I'd love an anglo!) but he's worth a hell of a lot more than the £1500 he's insured for (he's just done his first couple of BSJA courses, happy over 1.05 at home, goes XC at local open level and will do a decent novice test, plus is the easiest horse ever to do!), but if I wanted to put him up to the more realist £4/5k I'd need to replace like for like, it would be so much more on insurance every month!

The money is not much of a problem month to month but If the worst were to happen I would want to get another at the same level and I couldn't do that without the insurance money so its going up

i insured my last mare who was eventing at PN last year at 5k, digbys value is slightly higher and its is triple the price (well what we have been quoted anyway)

therefore i would say put it up to roughly that maount-you cant inaure for over 5k without having a vetting anyway!
