How much would you pay for the following:

16.2ish Bright Bay Dutch Warmblood with good bloodlines (dont know which though so lets say average bloodlines for price sake), 4years old, good confo with no blemishes etc.

Has been very well schooled, worked in lovely outline, really nice natural paces, huge jump but needed work (typical baby jump but can do huge fences and never stops even with a complete novice). Was very laid back and well behaved.

Horse is now wrecked as a totally unconfident novice bought it. Still goes nice on the flat with a good rider but very green, at the moment just works in 3 nice paces no lateral work introduced, still jumps well but needs work. BUT he has become a nightmare on the ground. He rears, not sure why but I know he didnt do it before. The owner appears scared of him.

She has advertised him for what she bought him for, I think he is worth a hell of a lot less as his schooling has gone backwards and he is not good on the ground.

So any ideas on an average price for this horse?
 

I wouldnt pay more than 3k if that. Sounds like shes ruined this horse!

Possibly. I would like to turn it away for a while as I dont think it has been turned away at all, it was just 4 when she got it. Then bring it back, school it and get some trust there and perhaps sell it on. It is what I would call dangerous at the moment.

Shes has had it about 6 months I think, she bought it because she wanted a horse that did not refuse jumps

I have heard from someone else that she will take 1.5k for it as she wants rid now, true or not I dont know, however its still advertised for £4350 (went on horsemart for this about 2 weeks ago) so I feel bad offering loads lower.

Its just an idea and I am not sure if I want to buy it, just contemplating it at the moment.
 
I have always wanted this horse since the day she bought it, I know it will be fantastic with some schooling and I would probably end up keeping it (although that would not be the plan). I just dont want to offer her pennies if infact it is worth more than I think it is.
 
That is what I was thinking. I know she wont sell it for what she wants. Shes advertised it for what she bought it for, and that was off a dealer and he was nicely schooled then. He now wears a gag and is a nightmare, she wears a hat to handle it as its very unpredictable.

I think I will wait a little while and see if she will take less, there is no harm in asking I suppose.

Absolutely, I would offer her 2k, people who come to see the horse are going to want her to ride it, she wont want to do that will she, not if she is scared of the horse.

She ruined the hose not you, dont part with more cash than you have to.

I would ask her directly what's her best price, and that you know about rearing and handling issues. And as your local and can give good home. And see where it goes from there.

Why don't you ask her what she wil take for it? Don't say that you are interested, but she is obviously talking to people about it, so if she says £1500 offer her it.

The horse is actually one the same livery as my horse so she knows that it will have a good home, and if I sell it on I will make sure I sell it to a good home. It would be a really nice project, she just inst able to deal with it and not many people would want to take on a horse with these problems. It is not the horse that is the problem really, just the way it has been handled. It wasnt like this before so its fixable.

If you want the horse, I would go for it and offer her £1.5k. If you have the cash in hand to give to her and she wants to get rid of it as much as you say, it's highly unlikely that she'll refuse. Even if she does, she's only said no and that's not the end of the world, is it?! You then can either up your offer or cut and run.

Such a shame for the horse though as if he doesn't get sorted now, is likely to be shoved from pillar to post for the rest of his life. I hate that. Idiots.

If the horse really is now genuinely dangerous, it is worth very little indeed - certainly no more than £2000.

And if she has ruined it she really has only herself to blame for the financial loss. It sounds to me as though she'll be very lucky if someone takes it off her hands at all in its current mental state - she can hardly expect to get decent money for it as well. You would be doing her a favour even at £1500!
 
To be honest the horse is now a problem, which basically makes it worthless, as you are/may be buying it as a project there is no guarantee it will come right, which must be explained to her, if that was the case you are taking a risk and in theory could lose money! she would get around £1,500 at the sales, and to be honest it is only probably a dealer who would buy off her at the moment and they would pay even less. £2,000 absolute tops.
