How much would you advertise the following horse for?

(Disclaimer - not my horse, certainly wouldnt be trying to sell it if it was!)

6 yr old TB mare, ok flat breeding but not amazing
raced but then had a bone chip removed so was sold as a riding horse.

Not done anything other than a bit of schooling and hacking

Damaged both front suspenseries and had both hocks injected due to hock pain 3 months ago.

Been box rested and now started walking

Not a novice ride, but not nasty, just typical TB

Thoughts?

Gee, if the horse were good for a novice, I think it would have more monetary value, because it sounds like it might not hold up to heavy work.
Is it quiet to hack? What kind of work do you see it doing down the road and are you able to school it a bit so it's really solid when someone comes out to try it?

So advertising said horse for over 2k isnt such a good idea really?

Wish I had the room just to take it in

I think my vet would say "meat money" - certainly has said so in the past about a horse with fewer problems.

can the owner not give her to a charity?? millyspaniel? they are bursting to the seams with i cant afford it etc cases!
origional post if your friend had a conscience she would put it down. never to suffer again, never to get a bad home, never to be trolled through the markets the length and breadth of the country. its 6 and has serious problems and is uninsurable as such!

Awww.. lots of horses get injured through bad luck, they recover and never have problems again! I hope she gets a good home with someone that appreciates her. Why are you griping on here about this mare? Why dont you take her on if you are so concerned?

You asked for thoughts, mine would be have her quietly PTS if your friend cant keep her. She sounds like a walking vets bill, probably no one experienced would buy her. Not many peeps want a companion horse that big with so many problems. Charities are bursting, there are lots of healthy horses for sale for a reasonable price, people are going to go for one of those. This is the trouble with flat racers, raced too young and Christmased by 6.

Personally agree with those who say PTS.

Very sad really, but realistically there is no value in an exracer that has already moreorless broken down aged 6, won't stand up to anything more than light hacking [if that] and isn't even a novice ride. Kindest thing to do is to PTS or poor thing will be passed around until it ends up on the meat lorry anyway.

Insure and put it on loan, poor baby. This horse could make someone happy for a time - and then be passed to a rescue haven?

Given livery costs these days, there is problem enough to sell - noone wants to buy a further problem which'll incur the types of vet costs coming this one's way and/or the emotional investment and hearbreak.

Hi all, let's all remember that Madhector isn't the horse's owner!
The horse is the owner's responsibility.
Both suspensory ligaments knackered in fores, then both hocks have problem, in 6 yr old?
(Never known that, but none of us know everything)
I would personally like to hear details from vet, + owner, before i comment, as this is something i've never come across (albeit i'm not into racing)
And i sincerely hope that anyone else commenting that a horse should be put to sleep may think as deeply as i do, + also respect vet's knowledge.

Awaiting vet's/owner's comments asap, as some on this thread jury are going for death sentence!

Lord, MH, what a difficult situation.

Guess it will end up in a sale ring - poor wee lass.

I'm another who'd have it put down if I couldn't keep it....

.

Unless a charity would take her for a permenantly retired companion, then sorry, Id PTS
I wouldn't sell her to anyone

I hope the owner makes the right decision

Feel sad for horse just reading the threads. Poor thing doesn't deserve to be passed on after being wrecked as a youngster. A sound horse is expensive to keep without additional costs so no I don't think it has much value.
