do you think you have spent this year trying to get your mare/s in foal?

I have paid far too much and only have one confirmed. We used our usual vet but the bills have just added up more and more that next year i dont think i could justify and i have told him so that i will go elsewhere!

I think our total so far incl shipping fee's and stud fees etc is around the £5000 mark!!

So if i am really lucky the price of one foal to make 3...hmmmmm

stud fee £350
Vet package £200 with vat
livery at stud £228 (to date!)
rent for stable at usual yard £192.50(to date! so dont lose stable!!)
£38 for new shoes and trim!
new rug for stripper horse £23!! (ebay special!!)
oh my god wish i hadnt done that!! grand total to date.....................£1031.50! and i'm not sure she pregnant yet!!!she has been covered 3 times!!

This was a cheap year for us
Stud fee £650
Vet package £180
Then because she was able to go out on grass livery at stud saved £300 on livery
Total £530
However last year £1500 no foal
The year before over £2000 lovely foal

1 mare has cost me:

No stud fee - stallion mine.
Clitoral Swab, EVA, EIA etc. £81.95
Cervical Swab £34.00
14 day scan £40.50
17 day scan - free
28 day scan for heart beat - free.

My other mares:
Stallion fees - to be paid to Darley in October (and at a very reduced rate - (have used Doyen and Bertolini for them this year).
Swabs etc. same as above, although one mare confirmed with twins, so one popped. Vet didn't charge - so a bottle of wine given in exchange.

Mares were walk in coverings to Darley, so just about £10 diesel for lorry for each mare going. Vet met us at Darley to give LH to mares after covering and no charge for this.

All mares had one cover. We know our mares inside out so to speak - had them rugged, and under heat lamps and lights from end September last year, so as soon as stud season started, and came into season, vet came out after a couple of days to scan to tell us when to cover - all confirmed in foal and it will be a very busy time for us here as all are due within 12 days of each other in January/first week of February.

As you can gather, during the stud season, vet practically here every single day, so providing we look after him, he looks after us and our horses.

Our stud vet fees always seem quite cheap compared to visiting mares coming to us from around the country - they think because we use Newmarket experts, they will charge a fortune and can't believe it when I say how much our vet bills have been.

Stallion £1,200
Swabs etc £109
Stud fees inc grass livery £725
14 day scan inc in above
So 2k+ so far !

Have to say the mare came back with bite and kick marks, mudfever and rain scald!!!! so not terribly impressed
