How not to deal with a bucking horse

I don't understand why he tied the leg the same side as he was getting on????

What unnecessary stress to the other legs, back and skeleton!!!

I hope to god that nobody trie this at home!!

EKW I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind your comment? Seemed a little off :s

Unfortunately it use to be a common tactic. Obviously still used sometimes these days. I guess its meant to disable the horse enough so that he cant buck, or even move i guess. I read a book a while back, fictional of course, where the leg was tied up to enable the rider to get on. Then the leg was released when the rider secured, so the horse could buck. Its an old tactic back in the day when you had cowboys backing young colts quickly. Im sure others, not just cowboys, use it, and i do hope that people dont just assume this is NH. No NH person i know would tie a leg up.

But i have to say, there are extreme circumstances that we may not know off, and by what is wrote of the video on youtube, it was extreme, and maybe the horses last chance. its not the method i would choose, but then again, ive never worked with an extreme bucker.
Until we know the full history of the horse, and why this training was used, i cant really say whether it was right or wrong. Ive seen a lot worse training and people being much crueler than this guy.

ive seen this done in real life, not for a ridden horse but for a horse that wouldnt accept a rug, I was in greece on a racehorse stud, the bloke was austrailian, the horses enjured far worse then this method before we came along.

in all honesty id rather see this done for 3 minutes than a lot of the jabbing kickings/beatings horses tend to get.

MR buckstop. evil bit of kit, id rather see this done in all honesty.

Not very nice to watch, but if it's a case of the meat man or stop it bucking, I would go along with it, as others say, it may mean less kicking hitting shouting for hours.

Horrible way of treating the horse!!!

I bet no one involved ever thought of checking it's teeth, back etc etc or having it checked over by a vet to see if there was anything medically wrong!

Horses with problems just need patience and understanding to learn to trust their handler, then these problems will be sorted
