and kill other animals, eg cats/small dogs/people's pets?
I know it is the huntsmen's job to keep the hounds working correctly, but I have heard of this happening & just wanted to know if it was true or not, really?
I have two dogs of a completely different breed which would happily eat cat sandwiches every day of the week - any dog with a strong hunting or prey drive is capable of killing a cat.
It is true and it can happen. A previous hunt I was at the hounds were just hacking along home and a smalll dog jumped out and they tried to hunt it till they were stopped - the reason for this was unfortunatley the dog smelt very very much like a fox!!
Of course mistakes can happen - when you are dealing with any sorts of animals, there is always scope for error.
The anti-hunt brigade try to make out that it happens every other day, but when you consider that there are 300 packs of hounds going out at least twice a week for seven months of the year, you are talking about 18-20 thousand hunting days to generate only a tiny number of incidents it puts it into proportion.
Statisitically, the antis would be more likely to run over someone's pet on the way to work than the hounds would be to kill one whilst at work.
