I do my pug approx every 6 weeks. Would you say that was too much or can I bath her more? She lives indoors and is always kept clean but does start to smell a bit "doggie" after about 2 weeks (I think its cos she is so close to the ground she picks up every smell going). I have to do her about every 6 weeks as she gets really dirty on the yard and on walks. I don't like to do her more often than that as I have this idea that its bad for her and the oils in her coat but just had a thought that maybe this isn't true and I could bath her more. By the way, she quite likes a bath and blow dry!! I would be really interested to hear what other people do and think.

Happy new year XXXXXXXXXXX

I never bath my greyhounds unless they have rolled in something horrible

They are very clean dogs, have fabulous shiny coats, and just dont need it

I put my westie in the bath to wash her legs/face off if shes been down the yard with me , but thats it. They are prone to skin problems anyay so dont want to encourage anything!
She will be going to the groomers every 3 months probably starting next week for a hair cut so will be bathed and blow dried then!

Laughing, at myself really, I never really bathed any of my previous dogs (all hardy mongrels) except for if they had rolled in something, but for some reason spoilt little pug seems to need it.

I take mine to the groomers every 5 weeks for a bath and clip!! and he is a working springer lol the other dogs prob take the P*** out of him on the field

Bathed the Great Dane once in the summer, the lab tends to like rolling in minging stuff

so she's had about 4 baths this year.
I do have dry shampoo that I put on them every so often just to make them smell a bit nicer

Only time I "bath" my dogs are if they are totally filthy, and that just consists of a blast with the hosepipe (yes they are whippets, but they're hardcore

) Or if they have fell in the pond and therefore stink (you will be suprised how many times they fell in during the summer!)!

Mine get showered off after nearly every walk at this time of year. They love it as they get warm water (spoilt I know!). I don't use shampoo every time but probably once a week or fortnight. Neither have ever had any skin problems.

Dom gets a bath about 6 times a year (he likes to roll in [****] if he can get away with it!!!)

Bes has never had a bath - she's a very clean dog and doesn't have much of a coat so doesn't really get muddy

About once a year, whether they need it or not.

In seriousness, my dogs' breeder baths their sister quite regularly and she does have a much nicer coat, but we live halfway up a mountain, they're outdoor dogs and I don't know whether it would be beneficial for them to bath them more regularly than that (GSDs). They go in the water every day anyway!

My dachsie is so low to the ground that a paw rinse turns into a semi-bath pretty much any time it's raining! He is longhaired but I keep his belly short to avoid dirt, he doesn't get shampoo every time but probably once a week or so, on the paws and underneath. He gets a full bath when he's filthy - can be twice in a fortnight or not for months! I use a sensitive shampoo and his hair and skin are lovely.

Rottie gets a good shampoo about every 2 to 3 weeks as I like him smelling fresh & looking silky. Muddy trotters get rinsed off with the hose & dried every day - he plays in the fields with his football for ages every day so gets muddy feet & a muddy head.

Hi there.

I have two dalmations and two jack russells, they are very fit and healthy but never get bathed or brushed apart from when the JR roll in something very unpleasant!

Ditto i have one JR, He's almost complete white and has always managed to stay squeaky clean, rarely had baths unless rolled in minging stinks.

My mini schnauzer has not been bathed since May, when he had a particularly messy encounter with a boggy patch! I don't do it as his groomer tells me not to - apparently to encourage the correct, wiry topcoat, I shouldn't be bathing him. He is well brushed, and really isn't smelly at all, honestly!

Dicky gets a bath every 4 - 6 weeks. He should get more because he is JRT and digs in the muck heap and down rabbit holes and rolls in fox pooh if possible. I use hubbies Head & Shoulders, not my Tresemme as its not powerful enough to get a lather on a filthy hound. He dives under the blast of the hairdryer and loves it. I give him a wipe over with one of those small micro towels wetted and splashed with antibacterial handwash from Lidl if he is smelly when he gets home from the field, plus a paw wash. In the summer he gets a blast with the hose at the field or dipped in a puddle or stream.
