I oiled my bridle today, it seems to get oiled every 6 months or so (just how it happens lol)

I clean it every week but really only for comps

So how often do you clean your tack?

I used to be really good and clean my tack every sunday night without fail. I would love to say that I am still that good - but the truth is that I am have got to be shockingly bad at cleaning tack recently

I am trying to mend my ways though - as I hate being seen out with dirty tack!!!

I'm wearing a halo!! I clean mine after each use. Just pull straps out of keepers and then wipe clean with a warm damp cloth then glycerine. I have bridles that are at least 20 years old and still going strong.

Stored gear gets checked over every six months and anything becomeing dry gets a light oil.

Never

just gets a wipe with a damp cloth & regular use. It was last done a few months ago... having said that, my leather is still butter soft and coping well with it & I never have problems changing bits etc unlike with the other horse's bridle which is regularly cleaned but not great leather.

girth and girth straps (on close contact saddle) get done after each ride cos the big lad is sensitive underneath.
snaffle bridle gets cleaned about once a week all year, double bridle gets cleaned before and after hunting during the winter and then before and after events in the summer.

i just use a beeswax type cleaner and don't oil my tack unless it looks dry. but both bridles are over ten years old and are dead easy to adjust or change bits etc. and the work bridle my sisters horse wears is nearly 25 years old I think!

Numnahs, pads and girths and neoprene boots go in the wash once a week (I have more than one/set of each)

Saddles get hosed and scrubbed if they look like they need it (Wintec synthetics). Fat Boy's bridle is a biothane Dr Cook so gets dumped in a bucket of soapy water as required. Mad Old Mare's bridle is brand new and, unfortunately, leather so I'll be teaching OH how to clean THAT when the occasion arises!

Can't stand dirty numnahs and girths so always use clean ones.

As for tack, I love it when it's clean but have to admit, don't do it enough - before competitions and if it is really manky. Although, I've just bought some grand prix leather gloss on recommendation and cleaned my tack with it today and it looks luvverly!!

Boots and numnahs get washed once a week, tack gets cleaned before competitions so once or twice a month. Competition numnahs/boots get washed after every use, especially the white stuff!

I am not so good tbh, i clean numnahs, girths exercise rugs very often, but i don't tend to clean and oil my saddle a bridle, though in my defense, the saddle i was riding in was synthetic
