As title really.

I don't hack often as I have no scenary and find it quite tedious. Try and go once a week. Just have other stuff to concentrate on like our flatwork and SJ training, plus when the lorry is on the road, we compete once a week, so she gets plenty of variety.

How often do you guys hack out?

I end up hacking quite a bit if I'm honest...but mainly because I hate flatwork (I do it cause I have to really to improve my sj) and I barely ever jump at home because the jumping facilities at my yard aren't very good... so usually I will do flatwork 2 or 3 times a week, and then hack 2 or 3 times a week - seems to keep him supple and built up muscle-wise, but without him getting stale...and the hacking keeps him fit

But I am only at low level competition..if I was at a higher level I suspect I'd do more flatwork/jumping training than I currently do..

I am lucky that we have a country park of woodland to ride around as well as some quiet roadwork if I fancy a change :)

Lucky if I hack once a week. a) work full-time so can't hack before or after work in spring/autumn/winter due to light; b) horses on quite a busy road so avoid riding on it unless a bank holiday & truck them up to woods so takes quite a bit of time; c) have a lesson/clinic usually one weekend day.

Would love to do more, especially if I had easy access to good hacking. As horses are turned out around 12 hours a day, they get quite a bit of exercise so not 'stable stale' and I don't stress about it.

Ideally I like to hack twice a week but my yard has no access to roads (plenty of fields though - so nice canters!). We could go on the roads but they are far too dangerous. All the field are soaking wet so we can't hack :( I can't even remember the last hack we went on it was so long ago! My horse is dying to hack out as he needs a good blast round, the best we can do right now though is let him let his energy out loose schooling. But yeah, i like to hack twice a week :D

2-3 times a week in winter and 3-4 times a week in summer, although it kind of depends on what horse I have at the time.

everytime i ride - i dont have an arena or anywhere to school in fields unless i find a suitable bit of flat stubble - so i do all my work on hacks - have done for the 4.5 yrs i've owned her

prob is that i have to hire an arena occasionally to remember the size of a 20x40 :o

Only hack about once ever 3 or 4 weeks, the hacking at uni is rather rubbish and its all road work, whereas while I am at home, I hack about 4 times a week and much prefer it, however, I compete 2/3 weekends out of the month, so he has a good variety

With the weather and working around my partners shifts (we have children) about 3 times a week ATM. And then one lesson a week in our indoor school. I have the opportunity to school instead but neither of us like it much!

Too much at the moment! about to become a lot less after he rodeod me onto my head on Friday. Had to hack lots coming back from injury but he's fit again now which makes him a lethal weapon out hacking. He gets enough variety in his life without hacking. Its dangerous for us both. Friday he ditched me, bolted and jumped a cattle grid. Lucky we're both ok.

more at the moment than i did in the summer! probably4 days a week i have lost all motivation for schooling and can't jump at home - ponys quite enjoying it too and her fitness is a lot better than it was before when i enjoyed schooling :)

O star :( Ouch. You take care!

My 4yo is about to go to my friend so she can hack 5 days a week (friend has road work and does it for a living, I am never home when it isn't dark and all my hacking is closed due to the wet). When she comes back hopefully it'll be lighter and I'll be able to get her out at least 3 times a week still. She only works 5 days a week.

My gelding, who I have to go and fetch on Sunday from his loan home :( nothing like that much. He is good to hack but he doesn't need it like she does so probably once or twice a week just to tick it off the list. I hate hacking. Doesn't matter how good the scenery is I just get nothing from it!

At least twice a week on my days off college - otherwise we ride in the school as its too dark to hack and I work all weekend so never ride then unless Im on hols

I hack most days I ride , I hate hacking I have four horses so one will hacked by me most days I school or lunge the others and my grooms will also hack . The driving horse is driven about four times a week but he's always hacked ridden once a week as well when he's in driving work .
Sometimes I have a hack and think that was nice but it's just not my Favorite thing.
I have been off games a month having damaged my back I am allowed on for twenty mins tomorrow I am looking forward to it.
Star than sounds like one of those oh no oh no moments when you get home and can't quite believe you got away with out it being a complete disaster.

How I feel at the moment.......NEVER,NEVER AGAIN!!!!!
Took our "Captain Sensible" out for a hack Friday before Xmas. He arrived home without me. Search party sent out and I was found unconcious on a concrete farm track. I have no memory of being found - just remember that I was going to fall and dont remember anything until I arrived in hospital.

Day of endless monitoring, apparently me muttering all day that I hadnt got time to be ill and then let out Friday evening. Xmas came and went in a blur and only now starting to feel anywhere near normal.

Do not ever take it for granted that your horse is 100% bombproof!

Too much! I absolutely hate hacking but have no arena or facilities so needs must. In winter he gets hacked twice a week and in summer 2-3 times if the fields are dry but would go up if they are wet.

Every day as I don't have anything else to do :(. Box to lessons and things. I'd definitely hack less if I had a school, I school on hacks just now. I am lucky that there is good hacking however.

Once a week in the winter, hopefully twice a week in the summer when it's light enough in the evenings. Our "hacking" is a village / housing estate, though, so not exactly exciting. I haven't cantered on a hack for over a year!!! Aim for this year - box at least once a month to somewhere we can have a proper hack.

I try to hack once a week; in winter it's easy to fit in at the weekend when we're having a break from competing and in summer it's light enough to go for a quick mooch after work. Those awkward few weeks with not enough light/hours I just play by ear!!

It's not something I hugely enjoy; to get onto tracks and grass you have to play chicken on one track lanes with bumpkins in their 4x4's, but I like to think Fig enjoys the change of scenery and it's good for his feet so I grit my teeth and bare it!

Definitely once a week, twice if not competing. I'm fortunate in that I don't work a Thursday (but work alternate Saturdays) so have a day in the week when I can hack and then if competing on the weekend will hack on the other day, unless it's a weekend where I'm working so will forgo the hack to compete Sunday. I tend to play it by ear and only ride out in good conditions as it's on road.

Try to at least once a week. We have a fab bridle path 10 minutes up the road though so do t always have the battle with traffic.

In the summer I'll hack out 2 - 3 times a week, even if it's just a short hack after schooling.

In the winter, I can only hack at the weekends if the weather permits so it can be anything from once a week to once a month.

2/3 times a week.
I love hacking and my horse is a dream to hack (now, he was a norty little poo at times when he was a bubba!).
I love schooling and jumping but I love hacking just as much :),I think I would get bored if I was in the school all the time! I love the feeling of freedom out hacking :p.
