Mine are all barefoot and now are so much better on their feet than they were with shoes on. they are all done roughly 6 weekly - but depends on their workload, the more they do they longer the periods they can go.
i only marked on the second question as bear was bare foot last year, but ATM he goes 8 weeks, but it could go longer, hopefull he's going to stay at 8 weeks!! cant afford at every 6 weeks!!!
my friends got a tb x (he's my horses dad) luckily bear doesnt have his feet because they are awful, he lost loads of weight at the beginning of the year and apparently when they lose condition the hooves are the 1st place to lose it and the last place to gain it!!!
because their feet grow like mad - believe me I WISH it could go longer!!! the TB goes all flat footed if i leave it any longer, and the Welsh Cob X goes pigeon-toed and pulls shoes and half her foot off. It is a NIGHTMARE!!!! I really hope winter is better because otherwise i'm going to have to sell a kidney!
5 weeks on the dot summer and winter. He has great feet, but if I leave them to 6 weeks there is just too much growth and he looks awful. I'd rather pay out to have them done more often and him stay sound with super feet than skimp and end up paying for it in the long run! When my farrier was on hols recently he did him after 4 as otherwise it would have been 7 and I refuse to wait that long.
6-8 weeks...they are both barefoot now, and have very good feet (after struggling with Hemir's whilst he was wearing shoes!) they just seemed to crumble at the nail and since not having shoes on his feet are so much better
couldn't vote as mine are done every 10-12 weeks. Both mine have rock hard hooves so only have fronts on for roadwork, and they hardly grow, even after that length of time farrier just rasps growth off rather than cutting it as there isn't much there. Yay for arabs lol
Spend £312 on shoes between them a year as opposed to £445 on my old TB, shod every 7-8 weeks with a full set
I have just gone barefoot with my arab mare, she used to easily go 8 weeks and we've only gone barefoot as the farrier said she didn't need shoes as she has such good feet. lucky I know but my other horse has crap feet so gets shod every 5-6 weeks and has to have hoof supplement
Flo is shod every 9 weeks throughout the year, Lottie is shod every 6 weeks throughout the year, Bramble and Teazle if barefoot are trimmed once maybe twice a year
if shod every 12 weeks and Dollar is trimmed about 3 times a year. Oh and the foals are trimmed when needed.
Mine is done every 6 weeks, she could go 8-9 weeks but the farrier comes out every 6 weeks to do a whole load.
Her feet are in brilliant condition which is good as she was diagnosed with navicular syndrome 5 years ago.
Usually he can go 8 or 9 weeks and his feet aren't long and shoes still tight, don't think his feet grow much! Saying that, they seemed to grow really quickly last time and were needing done after 7 weeks, very strange!
