Just out of interest, Iv just started jumping with my mare and wondered how often you all jump them? I dont want to do too much with her as shes still learning, so am hacking out a couple times a week and jumping a couple times so its not all the time, is this ok??

Yeah that sounds fine! You are right you don't want to over do it especially as she's still learning,

When your starting them off I say 2-3 times a week is about right. Most prof. show jumpering horses will do 1 day hacking, 2 days flat work 3 days jumping and 1 day off

When I was starting Jack off I would jump him one day, if it went well I would leave it a couple of days before jumping again, if we have problems I'd jump him the day after to try to sort it out. Sometime they just have an 'off day' and it's best to finish with some good flat work then try the jumping again the next day. You can make it more interesting by taking her to different places to jump, I take mine to my friend yard up the road once a week just for a change, it keeps them thinking!

The number of times you jump per week isn't that important, it's the length of time you spend jumping, the number of jumps you have him attempt & the surface you are jumping on.
