as above to help with box rest/restricted turnout i am getting a field shelter and stable on metal skids. ideally i want to move it around the field regularly so my horse on restricted turnout has a small fresh patch of grass. i know that they can be moved but how often..

I've moved mine once in 2 years! It's not easy!

From a planning permission point of view, they're suppose to be moved every 3 months (I think)

We moved ours yesterday,it had been where we moved it from for about 3 years. The problem with moving them is that you are left with a bare patch and the weeds grow in it. and it also digs up some of the turf where the skids dig in whilst its being moved. That said ,theres no reason why you shouldnt be able to move it once a week if you want to. mine is on metal skids, its very robust.
some local councils dont like them and get tetchy so will insist on you moving it every so often as specified by them.

It realy depends on your land. We moved ours once, down a hill and round a bend, over mud and hardcore. The stable manufacturers moved it with a tractor and five men. I wasn't there, but the boss told me "oh how we laughed! Not"

However if you have a level field, with not too long grass, and the ground is hard and good, then I should think that it wouldn't be too bad.

We had our skids put on by a friend who does metalwork. The field shelter manufacturer said that the wooden base would also be strong enough (but we like the fact that the wood doesn't get wet on the ground). If you are buying a shelter complete with skids, then the manufacturers are selling it as ready to tow, so get them to show you when they put it up perhaps?

I intended to move it. It came with metal skids and a huge anchor chain which fits into a strip of metal either end. It has stood in the same place for 7 years. Our council seemed to make up the rules as they went along. I was told it had to be moved from one field to another! But not how often or anything(Although there was nothing on the website and noone else in my village had been told this)!.

I explained it was one big paddock, but no it had to be moved(I did consider making two fields then)! However its been in the same spot and I suppose it does get muddy at the entrance although I had an over hang added which means the earth about 2 foot is still flat and dry.

I sometimes think I should move it but cant be bothered!

My mobile field shelter has wooden skids and it is really easy to tow around provided it isn't muddy. At this time of year it tows beautifully. I would say if it is being used a lot by the horse you would need to move it every few days. Last summer mine wasn't really used, but in the beginning of the autumn I left my horse in overnight a few times (he stays in with a rope across the front, well more like string really he is so good) and after a few days the grass did die off a bit and the ground got a bit smelly where he had been weeing!!! So yes, it is extremely feasible at this time of year, and i'd say move it twice weekly if you want to keep grass in it.
