Just wondering how often people excersise or ride your horses in the winter in a week? And what do you do, lunge, long rein, hack, school, jump etc... ,

I aim for riding four nights out of five as I would in summer. Doesn't always work out like that if the weather is horrendous but usually manage it.

5 or 6 times a week, mostly hacking then one day schooling and one jumping. Didn't go up and jump yesterday though, it was a choice between duvet and hot chocolate or Henry, and the duvet won

Try to ride 3 or 4 times a week but that's easier said than done when there's 3-4 horses in work! If time is short I loose school which they seem to enjoy. We tend to school, hack and then hunt too

On average 6 days. I am lucky at new yard there is a floodlight arena. My mum hacks out 2/3 times a week before work which is a huge help, so mainly hacking and schooling (flat/jumping). If they have to stay in they are out in play pen at least once a day and then exercised even if it is only a 20mins lunge.

At the moment my horse can only be hacked out. So she gets hacked out twice a week. When she goes out on loan and when/if I get a new one it will most likely be:
Mon: day off
Tue: School
Wed: lunge
Thurs: School
Fri: Day off
Sat: Hack/jump/lesson
Sun: Hack.

Through summer I ride 6 times a week- mostly hacking probably twice in the school.

Every winter until this year I rode 6 times a week but could only hack at weekends because of work- so 4 days were in the school, and I wondered why I had to feed him bloomin loads to keep the weight on, he was schooling hard most ridden times rather than gently hacking!

This year Im lucky as 1 work day I start later so can hack that day which gives my boy 3 days hacking and 2 in the school as i give him 2 off now.

Im lucky as I have indoor/ outdoor facilities with lights

Hmm hack once in a blue moon

Anywhere between 2-4 times a week. I try to atleast ride both days at the weekend. I either do schooling, hacking or something to do with pony club. Will hopefully do some hunting as well over the winter.

I work till 5pm but am lucky that my yard has a floodlit outdoor so weather permitting I normally school 3 days, hack once, lesson (jump or flat) once and lunge once. She gets one day off but sometimes i'll give her two. Last winter even on her days off she would go on the horsewalker while I muck out but this year the horsewalker is broken!! Gets fixed then breaks again 2 days later. Nightmare.

Last Winter rode 6 days a week without fail regardless of weather (I'm lucky to have indoor and outdoor schools) but this year she's earned some "down time" so for last 5 possibly 6 weeks have just been hacking 3-4 times a week (in walk until last week when I started to re introduce trot) and gridowrk 1-2 times a week. But she's having 2-3 days off a week minimum

5-6 times a week. Hack once a wkend, either lesson, jump mayb hack other wkend day. one lunge, one day off and rest schooling and mayb pole work if bored. I need to have lots of variety as he get bored and stuffy in winter.

God, I feel bad, mine gets ridden 4-5 times a week, sometimes 3 :-/ We do have floodlit arenas etc but sometimes it is just too damm cold and wet and I want to go home!

Ron gets....
Monday - rest
tuesday - hunting (usually)
wednesday - rest
thursday - rest (sometimes unaff SJ)
friday - rest
Saturday - hunting
Sunday - hack out

Tom gets rest, rest, rest, rest, rest hack out (if we're back from hunting in time) and hack out on sunday with his mate Ron.

I aim for 6 times out the week, we hack out whatever the weather really unless its extremley bad. All 3 of them go out for hour hack a day sometimes half hour then do some schooling.

Twice a week saturday and sunday...:-( - usually 1 x hack 1 x schooling
No lights in the school so too dark by the time I get there after work...

I'm lucky & have an indoor & a floodlit outdoor so am able to ride every day. I usually aim to ride/exercise 13 days in every 14.

What I do depends on a couple of things...
1) the weather. If it rains I ride inside but we're only allowed to jump outside so I tend to jump less when it's rains. I also hack less if it rains.
2) competing. If I'm out competing I tend to stay more motivated & jump a bit more.
3) Lessons. At the moment I'm having regular flatwork lessons so am schooling a fair bit as I don't see the point in paying for lessons if I'm not putting the work in on other days.

An average fortnight is probably...
3 days, jumping
1 or 2 days, hacking
1 day, lunging
1 or 2 lessons
the rest, schooling

Well over a 2 week period is probally more accurate for me:
(I have a outdoor and indoor school)

Monday - sharer will normally school
Tuesday - pessoa
Wednesday - ride out
Thursday - Jump (although i am not allowed to atm) so this will be replaced to do a loose jumping session
Friday - Sharer will ride either in the school or out
Saturday - Ride out
Sunday - either Day off or competing but again not allowed atm so is just a day of

Monday - Pessoa
Tuesday - Schooling (sharer)
Wednesday - School
Thursday - day off
Friday - Sharer will ride out
Saterday - Ride out
Sunday - day off

I try to keep to the same riding as in the summer so 5-6 days a week. Its been inpossible the last few weeks though, what with the rain and now a really deep sand school.

Saturday and Sunday, and a weekday if I have a day off!

I dont have a school, and work full time, however one of my reasons for moving to this place was that there was no school thus forcing me to not ride in the week in winter. I used to and found I wasn't leaving the yard until 9pm most nights (and was getting down there for 5.30am before work) and to be honest it was wearing me out. So now winter is 'down time' for us, and summer is when I put all my effort into riding/working them (him!) 6 days a week.

I'm hoping by next winter to have transport, so at least then I can go into the winter with a fit horse and be able to box to a nearby indoor school one night a week, and then do some competitions at the weekend.

the school represents a duck pond but we have a good lunge arena. I can only ride in the evenings after work and my sharer has 1 or both weekend days so over the winter I'm the boring mummy and he has his fun auntie to take him out on the weekend!! He has monday off, then tues - fri i will lunge twice and school twice so i guess i dont actually ride much
blush.gif
( then over the weekend if no competition on my sharer will hack out once or twice and maybe do a few jumps, if I'm not competing!
Cant wait for the summer when I can hack and jump in the week and ride in a dry school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
