How often do you rotate your paddocks?

I have split my field (approx 3 acres) into three which I have never bothered to do before. So far I have rotated every two weeks. We do seem to have a lot of grass and both mares are a bit overweight. They come in every morning at 8 have a handful of old hay and get turned out at about 6 being ridden for about an hour either morning or after school.

If you have multiple paddocks - how often do you rotate them?

I will admit that I don't rotate the summer paddock that I have mine on. I will shut some of it off and strip graze it though. It gets rested over winter only.

I have two other smaller paddocks that the liveries horses go into. We used to put all of them together but Patches and a livery gelding were in love and a lot of "over 18's" behaviour was going on!

They tend to rotate every three or four weeks between the two areas. The bottom paddock is on sandy soil, more so than the top, and I will admit it's not growing that much at present as it's too dry for it given it's excellent drainage.

Why can't you dig it up, or is the paddock full of it? I get the odd rosette coming through and dig it straight up and burn it. Don't know where it comes from, I blame the birds.
