go?
Ok so when I get my lorry back from being fixed and when I finally get my jump saddle sorted out I am hoping to take the boys out each weekend if possible?
We have access to Cannock Chase which is good for riding but am also looking for places such as Somerford Park that are open in the winter for farm rides etc. Preferably no more than an hours drive away from Stafford.
I assume it is better for the lorry to be run a couple of times a month over the winter than sat doing nothing?

Sue, it is best to use the lorry as much as possible. If possible try to take it out at least once a week for 30/40mins, thats enough to charge the battery and run the engine till its warm and warm the brakes up too. I used to take ours for a blast with out the neds, giving a good old stamp on the brakes etc.

mechanic told me to run it every week, ideally a few miles up the road and back.
also to keep the diesel tank filled to the brim to stop it from rusting above the fuel line.
have you been to Teddesley Park? nice little farm ride/xc, near Cannock Chase.

I've had to start taking mine everywhere after a serious ticking off from my mechanic mate who found numerous things siezed underneath, and I thought once a week was regular, apparently not!

Anyway, lucky it's small as now take it shopping, the yard, everywhere really except work. That would be tricky as would probably come back to find a family of six living in it with a wide screen TV!

Oh good now got a genuine reason to take the boys out for a play each weekend then

Would you hack out in a dressage saddle over Cannock Chase, big hills to gallop up etc as not sure how long it will be before my jump saddle is fixed?

Will certainly keep the fuel topped up as not heard of that one. Been told to keep tack lockers greased and use regulary as they can seize up due to their location.
Didn't realise how much I missed lorry and saddle until they are not here/can't use

Not been Teddesley yet, it is just the other side of yard as we have the horses at Rodbaston College now. Is it open throughout the winter?

We will be using mine a couple of times a week- going to and from lessons, and evening showjumping at SRC during the week- ill take one to do the small classes, and the other to do the bigger classes the following week. Hopefully i'll also be able to get out at the weekends either doing dressage with madam, or SJ with fatty!
After not having transport for so long, i'm seriously going to make the most of the transport i do now have!

Ooh err, mine is quite large as can sleep 4 and has space for 4 large horses

so don't think I'll be driving it everywhere!
mmm now a flat screen tv in the living sounds like a good idea

luckily with being based at Rodbaston now we have our instructor come to us to give us lessons, and there are regular SJ and dressage comps on a Wednesday and Sunday so don't really need to go off site, but will do as need to keep lorry ticking over

My Dad takes ours to Tesco, coz its got enough spaces on a week night to park it with no problems, Also there are no big hills to go up! Its a very old Bedford TK.

Ours is run once or twice a week. And if we dont go out during the week we turn the engine on and run it for 30mins whilst doing jobs on the yard.

Our journeys range from 3hrs to 1hr depending on where im going!
