To clear my name of having OCD in cleaning....

Hardly ever. Normally only if I'm going to a show or a lesson with my boss. Every 6 weeks or so.

Water and saddle soap.

I clean my tack after I use it with saddle soap so pretty much every day, and then oil it or condition it once a week. I prefer to give it a quick clean regularly rather than leave it and have to spend ages scraping the dirt and grease off it. If for some reason I don't have time to clean all the bridles/saddles I will at least clean the bits and girths. I spend a lot of money on my tack so I like to look after it.

I clean my bridle often and soap it/oil it as the leather is pretty naf. The saddle however is generally only for shows.

...I use water, then soap, then oil.

Not nearly often enough

I clean her bit after each use, and now I have a saddle that is borrowed I'll give it a going over once a week as I feel guilty otherwise. Bidle gets done when I think it is long overdue! I use saddle soap and a conditioner spray thingy.

Don't clean mine often enough .. the bits are cleaned immediately after taking the bridle off (can't stand it if there are crusty dry bits left on, eurgh), saddle & bridle done every 3-4 weeks but I'll also give them a clean if they've got wet. Then additional cleans before shows.

Used to use Wilf Whites saddle soap which was brilliant. Ran out so just use the soft orange Carr Day & Martin soap.

I have to say I think it is disgusting not to wash the bit everytime the bridle is used and also to clean the bridle often. I used to clean mine everytime I used it but I would think the very least would be every other time it was used.

It also depends, how much your horse sweats. I was always taught, horse equipment is expensive. Look after it.

Can you explain why it is disgusting to not wash the bit and clean the bridle each time? I'm always interested in how people come to the decisions they come to.

I must just have a clean horse then, to look at his bridle it looks spotless, even if its not been cleaned for months. Even his bit is always clean. Lucky me

i clean my competition bridle before every competition, so i guess thats every time i use it. i clean my normal bridle about once a week, but always give the bit a clean before i use it as i sometimes use the same bit for both my horses.
i dont clean my saddles often enough- hardly ever clean harrys saddle, although saying that i cleaned it yesterday

I don't lick dirt.

I don't rub my mouth on worms.

I don't eat my own poo.

I don't eat from a plate which has had dead food on it for years.

I don't chew wood or nibble on metal.

I don't scratch my head with my teeth.

I don't lick bugs eggs from my legs.

Why not? Because I am not a horse

I do wipe my bridle and saddle over after I ride ( don't think it is bad f you don't ) Take it apart about once a month. I NEVER cleaned my tack 'till I had to buy it myself with my hard earned cash! ( didn't have rich parents) How I see it is.... if you look after it it will last longer ( and it has ) Not mega fussy though, if it is -2c or I just don't have time I would't bother to clean it just dunk the bit in water!!

I wash my bit after every ride. Simply because it is the easiest time to clean it as it is all wet and slimey.

I aim to give my tack a wipe over after each ride. However sometimes I take it off and it still looks clean so I don't bother. Also time is a factor so if I have time, it gets a wipe over, if not, tough it gets chucked in the lock up to fester. lol.

I look after it well enough most of the time so it can take the odd but of abuse here and there.

Clean the bit everytime its used, the saddle is wiped down everytime i use it. They get a good clean once a week, usually on sunday.

I never said I didn't wash my bits. I asked why you came to the decision.....you had no good reason; only comparing humans to horses......I pointed out I was not a horse.
