How often do your non-horsey OH's go to yard

My hubs take the mini shettie out with us all sometimes, they are sooo cute together.

I sometimes suggest how nice it would be if he had a nice big, VERY quiet, safe horse to ride (if we had our own land, of course), and he has actually started making positive noises.....

Both are big "ifs" tho.

Up until about a year ago, the answer to that question was almost never, and then with very bad grace and huge reluctance. He regarded the ponies as a bloody nuisance frankly.

Then he met our forest-run filly when we brought her in for some TLC and R&R and basically just fell in love with her. We've moved yards since, and the new yard is very men friendly - a lot of OH's come up and they are all welcome and included in conversations. My husband now goes up to the yard of his own free will just for a bit of chat with the others (and to cuddle the foal ;) ) He can also bring in, turn out, change rugs (needs to be told which ones though) and poo pick, so is now quite useful. :D

My OH is terrified of horses, but he's being really supportive with my mare. He now would like to ride and is taking a real interest in daily care - he was chatting away to farrier today :) unfortunately Darco is not suitable for a total novice and he's too embarrassed to try in front of me, not that I'd criticise. But to go from hating them to really trying so we can share a hobby... Well I think my OH is amazing :D xx

I know it's slightly different for me, as my OH comes to the yard to see our daughters pony (not mine - not gone one :() but I feel I must say how great he is!!

He is so severely allergic, he is a couple of points on the blood test scale away from needing an epi pen. He takes anti histamines permanently, has just come off oral steroids, and is on at the moment 3 different inhalers (god knows how many times a day) plus a nasal spray!!!

He comes to the riding school for almost every lesson and almost every time we hack out or ride alone in the indoor or outdoor school. Dolly loves him (more than me!) and he held her the other day when I couldn't pick her feet out because she kept trying to bite me on the bum and I started laughing and it all went wrong :D

He tries to steer clear of grooming or mucking out, but he keeps everything clean and working (GREAT at tack cleaning!)!

He even started having lessons a few months ago, but an old ankle injury has slowed him up a bit.

He's the BEST!!! :D:D:D

Mine wouldnt come very often to my last yard as he didn't like it there very much, but now he comes most weekends and quite enjoys seeing the horses and watching us ride, especially when our daughter has lessons with her he finds it interesting, he says he needs to keep a check on where all his money is going lol! Luckily (touch wood) i have never had to rely on him to do them for me, but i reckon after his years of observing he could at least check, rug/un rug, feed and turn out for me in an emergency...

I have to say mine is a total legend! He is not at all horsey (rode a few times on holiday but that's it) but he supports everything I want to do. He paid half for my youngster and he has become really attatched to him! He can now be trusted to do Tommy completely on his own (I trained him from scratch so he knows exactly how I want box/rug/feed/handling done!) if I can't make it up. He worked a month of double shifts to buy me my trailer and then spent all his spare time painting it and working on the electrics etc. Finally he actually suggested I get another horse! He knew I was really missing riding so he told me to look for one on loan! We found her and he came with me to try her twice and he is driving her home for me next Thursday. I don't tell him enough how much I appreciate everything he does but I really couldnt have horses without him! I'm such a lucky girl!

Mine doesn't actually stay at the yard unless there's an emergency like my youngster managed to get herself caught up in some wire about 6 months after I had bought her. As soon as I got the call he had got the wire cutters and drove me to the yard and made the fencing safe again. He will drop me of and pick me up again but has never seen me ride.

On the plus side he rarely complains about the amount of time I spend with the horses or what I spend on them :D He is a keen fisherman so can spend as much time doing that as I spend with horses ;)

I had the speech the other day: 'I dont f###ing like horses, I never have f###ing liked hroses and I never f###ing will like horses so stop asking me to come up the yard with you!!!'

TBH he is quite good and if I beg him he will come and help me with SJ and if I am ever incapacitated he will do my horse for me but if there is not a need then no he does not come up the yard...
