How often to work for lungworm?

Is Angiostrongylus vasorum present in your area?

Some vets around here are scaring owners into treatment despite no cases or evidence of a risk in this area.

I am in Surrey and I worm monthly with Advocat, specifically against lungworm. In my area its not scaremongering as my sisters staffie boy had it. I had thought it was really rare but after that, mine get wormed against it.

This... but then I am in Surrey too. My vets reckon they see at least 1 case per month

I am also in Surrey and our vets advise Milbemax every 3 months.Again I know of two dogs locally who have had lungworm.

Sorry to hijack, but the vet nurse told me today that Drontal works for lungworm. Using my friend Mr Google, I am now lead to believe this is bollox?
I've never really been paranoid about worming before but this pup is a stinker and eats everything and there are tonnes of slugs and foxes about this year.
What would the recommendations be for next time, bearing in mind he's been wormed and Frontlined today? Could I add another treatment on top of that or just wait? I don't want to overload his system and I've heard of no recorded cases, but it is becoming my new paranoia after teeth and pasterns :o

Darcy has her KC good citizen award test tomorrow and Im already sorting out Diesels Kong, pigs ear and checked with daughters boyfriend that he can dog sit. He has been given his instructions as to what time to give it to him.

I call it careful, responsible dog ownership but am well aware that it might be seen as others as OTT.:D
