I've just started jumping Blade, had a really nice session on him last week, only jumping about 2'6 but going really nice. Its the first time I've jumped him since he's been backed, didnt want to rush him but now I want to start and get him ready for competition. How often do you jump school and for how long?? He's got a great attitude and loves it but dont want to get him bored and cause problems.

What do you all recon??

Ben Maher

schools his horse twice a week
hacks them once or twice
jumps them once a week
and then competes most other days

Um not much experience here, but using common sense and my ridiculous knowledge of horses (all gleaned from various books and magazines - I know how to do loads of stuff... in theory......)

But maybe jump him once or twice a week? School and hack the rest?

I would agree with Ben Maher and say keep the jumping at home to a minimum. Once you have got it right then there is no need to keep doing it again and again.

I Jump mine very occasionly because she doesn't seem to enjoy jumping the same old showjumps in the school so she just gets a tune up a couple of days before we go anywhere and I try to make them as scary as possible to give her something to look at!

You should probably just go with what feels right for you and your horse, as long as you don't over do it.
