Hi
My 15yo elderly labrador toe on her back leg has come away from the nail bed - very painful especially as it got septic. He is too old, lame and would get too stressed to take to the vet, but luckily I have a good relationship with the vets who has given advice and we have been dressing and bandaging the wound it and it is slowly getting better.
I think that he has been walking less may was a large part of the problem, so now I need to keep his nails shorter. I am going through a huge learning curve and getting all the information I can, but I can't find how often it is advised to clip the nails if the foot is bandaged. I know that is like asking how long a piece of string is, but there must be some sort of a guideline. The foot is completely bandaged when we go out so there is no natural wearing down at all.
Hoping that someone else has had experience of this and can help.
