How often would you compete BE in a season

It really depends on the weather and ground for me. I usually manage about 10 events a year if I plan well.

If it's going to be hot and hard again I would plan to do quite a few in the spring until about June and then if the ground is hard leave it until about September. This is of course dependent on what is on near you etc.

It depends what class your doing.

Your horse, the ground and the travelling distance

I would say Intro maybe 3 weekends a month, and maybe PN that as well.

Then Novice every 2 weeks, Intermediate every 3 weeks and so on, but it depends on the horse really.

I agree with dixie.

one of mine can def not be run on hard ground so will b spring and autum events for us

I would expect to go Intro/PN a couple of times a month if running all season. In reality will probably do as many as possible in the early part of the season, stop completely when the ground is hard and aim to do the autumn ones if the ground is right. Guess will look at doing 10/12 events per horse per season.

I echo MrsT
Normally around 10-12 events during the season.
Try and do a fair amount 2 sometimes 3 a month in the spring then maybe 1 a month during the summer and then a few more in the autumn depending on ground, horse and money.
Equally this season I will probably do as many as i can afford *now have two to compete * in the spring and then stick to SJing through the summer.

I usually decide by looking at my bank balance... last year I managed 5! If you have a particular aim for the season look at when it is and work backwards, working out what you and your horse need in terms of runs based on temperaments, experience and qualifications. I think up to Novice level you can run a horse competitively (ie. trying to get the time) really quite often as it shouldn't take too much out of them and the runs will keep them fit. I would say as a general rule leave at least 4 days between runs, and for every hour spent travelling add at least one extra day. Obviously this could equate to running up to 7 times a month, which wouldn't be advisable, but if you had two near you that you wanted to go to don't worry if there aren't too many days inbetween is what I'm trying to say!

It very much depends on where things are. There arent many events near me so to do more Id basically have to travel round the whole of Scotland (which is what some people do). I usually travel up to 3 hours for a normal BE event. Last year I did I think 5 events. This year I plan to do some more.

I ended up doing 11 with my main horse last year (should have been 12 but my lorry failed on me!).

This year I've got two horses going BE so it will probably be dictated more by bank balance than anything else, but have at least 8 events planned with each horse.
