how often

If it was me, I would want an update every day, but no doubt they would get fed up with me calling!! Honestly, I would like to hear something at least 2 or 3 times a week. Good luck.
 
When R was backed we had weekly updates, and that we before he was even officially mine! (Had registered interest, but wanted to see how he took to work before buying him)
 
Ditto - the above. My youngster went off for training for 2 weeks (had alreay been backed have to say) but was rung twice each week and i did ring once i think in between. I also went to watch him being schooled once!

:) I did call everyday then i was told i was a pain, only left him sunday, but his my big baby boy .
 
At the end of the day he's your horse and any professionaly run yard would expect an owner to want to be kept updated. I would be very unhappy if I was paying for a service and I was told "I was a pain" that to me stinks of very poor customer service.
