I have just bought a beautiful second hand Stubben Siegfried VSS 18" NM Gp/Jump Saddle. I don't know the age but it's quite old. It doesn't have the metal logo on the back of the saddle which the new ones have. It's a lovely saddle and seems in great condition. How do you know when a saddle should no longer be used ... do they have a shelf life?

This is the saddle ..

how long is a piece of string- a saddle never wears out if it is well looked after, ive ridden on some right antiques and were so comfortable.

my parzival is over 25 years old, and so comfey. it has quite a lot of wear so a bit tatty, but has been rflocked, patched and new girth straps. As long as the tree is sound, and the g straps are safe, and it has generally been looked after it will have many miles left in it.

I have a saddle just like that and it's over 20 years old - it's absolutely fine! The only thing that has been changed was that the girth straps were changed a while ago (but for about 10 of those years it was used purely as a show saddle).

As long as the saddle is looked after and the flocking is even, it doesn't really matter how old the saddle is.

Anyway, good luck with you new Stubben - they're awesome!
