Hes one year and five months! Four or five lol, i wish! The main question though, at what age is it best to start introducing long-reining, obviously not now but so many people have different opinions that im curious why people have their reasons for doing different things!

I wasn't too far off

I wonder how my old colt is doing? He will do 2.5 years old now. *Sigh!*

Well it will depend on the individual horse. Is he mouthed? Has he had a roller on? What education has he had to date? I would perhaps start doing some basic work next spring. Walk, stop, left, right, in the menage, with a helper, a mild bit and lots of verbal commands.

Isnt mouthed and hasnt had a roller on but can be sure he would take to it like a duck to water, hes dead easy to do. Hes well handled, loads, ties up, good with farrier, perfect to lead, been shown etc, well manored.

That's all good? Has he been rugged? I'm not big on rugging horses that don't need it but it would introduce him to the feeling and you may want to clip him out when he is older.

I would think about getting a mouthing bit then and gently introducing that and a roller (obviously not at the same time).

Also, if you haven't already, try doing some desensitising with him (hang thingsup in his stable, walk him through water and over tarpaulin, play noisy radios, bang doors and bombproof him. Showing is obviously a good idea! Can you put your fingers in his mouth and ears, stroke his eye-lids and stroke him all over? These are all things I did with my colt because I thought at some point it would do someone a big favour

One way to measure him for a bit is to pop a wooden spoon in his mouth and obviously give a little allowance on either side, hold your thumbs at the correct place and get someone to measure with a ruler.
