shes having amonth off due to her saddle/back (we think ) issues -

Shes 4... out for about 5-8 hours a day - on hay/ 3/4 of a scoop of chaff. (local feedstore stuff)

she needs more muscle with work i know... but i do think shes a tad tubby? (tummy)

(dont worry shes not getting her feed cut as she needs it through winter)

not the best pics ever but your expert opinions please...as i have it in my head shes up the duff despite her supposidly being in season in august.

go...

and thanks. vet is out this week anyhow but just tell me im being paranoid and this isnt why shes being a cowbag suddenly? :D

Oh my goodness shes huge..like, really quite fat round her tummy.

Are you sure shes not pregnant. If she definitely isnt she should be on nothing more than grass!

She looks just glorious.

You don't want any more weight on her - and it may be that hay will be enough for her.

It will certainly help to get her a little more trimmed prior to having a new saddle fitted and re-commencing work.

why do you think that she might be 'up the duff?' She does seem to have a belly on her but could be due to high fibre diet/worms(?)/lack of exercise etc. What do you feed and what does she do?

are you being serious or just getting me paranoid (easily done)!!!

see id be more concerned if she didnt have season but i do think she was in season in august time as she was a complete tart with the boys!!!

vets out wed so i could get a paranoid scan........ but i do think im overreacting.

yeah i was thinking month of ridden as i dont want to be on her if theres a problem but long rein her on road/hacks etc.... keep her moving (and get me fitter)! and some lunging on big circles....

shes on chaff and she has ben wormed 2 weeks ago.... (shes on a very regular worming programme)....

shes on chaff only... gets apples and carrots as treats - hay not haylege.... and worked (until our problems) 4 times a weekish.....

shes out for between 5-8 hours a day in a humungous field and they are contstanly walking and galloping like idiots.

i didnt think so :D thank gawd...

she just needs more exercise to shift the belly? or just leave as is over winter?

i dont want a fat hoss - specially one that wil be in less work for the next month...

I would be pretty paranoid because her stomach is really very large but her neck and bum are a nice size - saying that, our TBx mare looks like that atm and definitely isnt pregnant (well, not unless my filly foal has something to tell me), but I would definitely want some weight off that stomach. Any photos from the back or front?

I would just look to monitoring her grub intake - and making sure she gets a good bit of exercise once you have a new saddle. It's not that she's fat - but more of a grass / unfit belly. All of which can be easily and quite quickly rectified with exercise.

I think she's a lovely sort.

If she were mine and I had doubts as to her virginity, I would have a vet out to do an 'internal'. If she is in foal she will need a diet etc etc. Good luck whatever the outcome!. M.x

flamehead - i though u were winding me up lol!

:)

ets - thanks to those who say shes lovely.... i think she is and shes very honest and geuine.... people laugh when i say shes 4... a tractor going past and im there shoving mud guard on her legs (im kicing range).... shes got such a lovely outlook on life thats why i love her :)

Did you leave her running out with a stallion? If so, then she's pregnant. If not, she has a grass belly - a lovely, rotund, huggable one which'll pop off with a bit of schooling, but with winter's coming it's the best time to have one:)

She looks a lot slimmer in these pics - lovely:)

Aw bless her shes got such a cute face.

Shes in much better shape in those photos so it may just be that its the light/fluffiness making her look so big on the ones stood sideways. However, if she were mine and there was a chance that shed be pregnant (i.e. shes run with a stallion) then I would definitely be getting the vet out as she is too big for my liking.

Saying that, you should come see my field of fatties.....!

i think whats casting doubt is her history. im just not convinced tbh.

I would get the vet out, then. If there is a chance, then that belly would worry me - particularly as shes got bigger (from the photos) as time goes on.

Have you weight taped her?

vet is out wednesday anyhow for her jabs and teeth :)

she isnt mega fluffy tbh and shes on less feed than she was when i bought her as she isnt in hard work (hence my refusal to clip!)...but she is in work.
(well until saddle issues)...

we weight taped her about a month or more ago and she was 470 i think....

my friend has one and i can always borrow it tonight?

:)

Would just be interesting to know whether shes gained much - as if you've not increased her feed etc much in that time then if shes gained alot you'll be clearer on whether its a bubba or a grass belly!

She looks a very nice horse. What breed is she?

Im thinking that if she was pregnant, the lump would be further back, in line with the whirl of her hindquarters, like that of an in foal mare at my yard.

Could it be gas causing the bloated look?. She reminds me of the shape of my pony who has had a few foals in her time, and her stomch has 'dropped', but looks worse after a spell of the green stuff and gasses out!.

yehh i will weight tape her tonight - i havent increased her feed though i started on a handful of chaff in a morn as well as the nights feed but i cut the mornings out as she was getting full of herself... then she back to her normall fabulous dope on a rope.

shes apparantly warmblood x but have a guess.

we call her a 'freak' for numerus reasons :D (i love her to bits and that is meant in a light way!) :D she has her ways and is a total donkey tbh shes fab :)

i dont deep down think shes up the duf fbut i cant help but think cause of stuff ive found out etc....

but then again she had a season not long after i got her.... soo she cant be :)

she doesn't look pregnant to me- she looks very similar to my tb mare who has had 10 weeks off and is on hay and chaff and now has a big belly.
