Showing season is almost with us again (i cant wait).

I have been wondering how I should be turning Breagha out (she will be 2 in May) for the showing season. Now, she has a really thick mane and is quite long but she doesnt have that much feather.

Should I get rid of feather and trim mane or leave feather and tidy up her mane for showing??

I am used to a hunter type, which was trimmed and plaited - so I am new to youngsters and cob types.

Here is a few pictures.

Very nice, I would pull and trim. Jods and long riding boots look awful when showing in hand, trousers and paddock boots are correct attire.

Lovely :)

She'd have been pulled, feathers trimmed and plaited if she was mine.

I have been swayed towards trimmed and plaited but everytime I say it people are like NOOOO her mane etc etc

Thanks.

I normally wear long trousers when showing but was also riding the day I was wearing the jods and long boots.

Thanks everyone - I would put a picture up of her just now but because she is sooo hairy, she looks like she has got chunky legs and its a proper heavyweight cob but underneath that hair is a slightly finer pony - like above but she changes all the time and when the spring grass comes, god knows what she will look like :D

Think I will be calling in the experts to pull her mane nearer to showing season EEK! I do like her mane but also want to WIN lol.

She could be shown as a native if you don't want to trim and plait. This may help http://www.bspaonline.com/pdf/booklets/Natives_Booklet.pdf

I agree, as she's still very much a baby and her hair will change, I'd be inclined to leave her hairy, maybe just slightly tidy up her mane as long ones can make a pony look old sometimes and see how she goes this season, if judges don't like her then you can try something else later on? Especially if she has cobby action, she's not a 'show pony' more of a 'hunter pony' type if trimmed up but her action may not be suitable for that type.

Thanks for that link, I have had a quick look at it and it explains alot. I will need to have a proper look when I am at home and not at work :D

Thanks. I would say her way of going was more straight like hunter type. I am hoping she is going to make 15'3, so how I show her may change a few times between now and when she is ridden.

People on her will give you all advice need but just wanted to say wow i really like her. shes gorgeous :)

Awww thanks! I have had her since May and love her to pieces :D
