How soon can a colt be turned out with or nest to mares?

It very much depends on the herd structure. My colt foals live in a herd with strong mares, geldings and filly foals and they respect the boundaries so when they are gelded they remain in their field with their friends. However if this is a new colt, or one who hasn't acclimatised to living with mares (apart from his mother previously) then advice is usually to leave them separate for at least 30 days, if coltish then I'd leave separate for 45 days.

Technically they can still get a mare in foal upto 6 weeks after being gelded, so I would say 6 weeks to be on the safe side and just run with a gelding/colt herd for the mo!:D
