I am just pondering at how big you could get away with being on different heights of cobs. I am looking into them as have seen some nice ones for sale and wouldnt mind having one just think maybe I would be too tall.

Also if you have pictures that would be great to show how you look on the height of the horse

I'm 5'5 and have a 15hh welsh cob, perhaps not the sort of cob you meant, but my old showing instructor is a good lanky 6'0 and looked fine on my boy, incidently he took a 14.1 connie to Olympia and never looked out of place.

I'm 5'3" and Sparks is 15.3hh (see siggy for pics). She's cobby, but not a HW type. As you can see in the dressage pic, my little stumps don't reach all the way down her sides, so she could easily carry a taller rider.

This is me on my sisters cob who is 15hh, i'm 5'8 although have long legs:

I had a 15hhish Dales - quite a few years back and i'm 5'7! She was a bulky girl, jumped like a superstar and we had tonnes of fun. I never looked out of place.
I now have Arabs full and Anglo, 15.2. They happy and I don't like riding big horses - further to fall

(although Arabs have a talent for getting you off quicker!

I'm 5ft8 and I have a 15.2 mw with a really wide back. My problem is that I'm really leggy. I love her to bits but I know that I would find flatwork easier if she was a hand taller because my legs wouldn't dangle below her belly, kicking fresh air makes things more complicated.

I've been shot down on here before for saying this. I'm not saying its not possible but personally, and in my instructors opinion, it does add another complication into the mix.

I'd say it all depends what you want the horse for and how long your legs are.

I'm 5ft 8 and used to ride a 14.3 cobby now have a 15.1 connie. My legs are a bit long but hey I get by ok! Tho some ppl laugh and say I need a 16 hander... boo to them.. At least I can get on and off easy to open gates etc!

I'm 5ft7 and have 15.1hh and 15.3hh cobs. I have also ridden a 14.2hh cob and not looked overly tall on him.

I'm 5ft8 and have a 14.2hh Welsh d x nf. (Sig).

I also have on loan a 13.3hh fell x (!) I am leggy on both but relatively light (9 stone) and get by ok.

I'm 5'10" and have a 15.2 cob type mare. In theory im probably too tall for her but she copes just fine, and is so wide that she takes my leg up pretty well.

Depends on their depth of girth etc on how well they take your leg up. I know a bloke who is about 6'2 who has a 15.1hh cob and looks fab on him

Hi, I'm 5'10" with long legs - my cob is 15.1, heavyweight so lots of him to take up my leg! Any excuse for a pic!

I'm 5'11, F is a 15.2hh welsh D and built like the proverbial. My legs actually don't come as low down on him as they did on the 17.2hh police horse I used to ride!

oh, he's amazing alright!

typical irish tinkers pony.....alot to say for himself TBH...it would be VERY interesting to see his reaction to putting him in a cart TBH.......

he's been broken toa trap...as most Irish import ponies are...just cant see he'd of been much fun, tho....

SERIOUS attitude!!!!

Thank you everyone for your replies, I am 5ft10 and was worried that I would be too tall for a cob, Obv it would be of a decent size to take my leg up, if I get one that is, I had one previously and had so much fun so considering getting a bigger one. Only 14.2 but didnt look that big on her but you could tell I was to tall.

Have rode a 15hh show cob and looked really good on him, as you say one with a deep girth would take my legs up.
