hello, don't usually post but first time for everything:p
i was wondering if many of you would consider 5'6 too tall for a 14.2 connemara x welsh d?
i'm sure it would have no issues carrying this amount of weight, just do you feel it would look slightly ridiculous?
generally i think most people are fine on 14.2's at 5'6 just want other peoples opinions please:)

I'm 5'8 and my highland's smaller than your connie. Even at dressage length I don't feel I look "ridiculous".

Not too tall!

I have a Welsh Sec C colt who will be ridden by me when old enough. I am 5' 6.

I think we have got used to seeing people on big horses, and less used to adults on ponies. If it is up to the rider's weight, height is not so relevant as long as it is not enough to unbalance the rider.

synchnant i posted before seeing your reply, i agree that there are less taller people on ponies nowadays and people consider it more common practice for tall people to be on horses.

I used to want a bigger horse. Moving onto something bigger was the thing to do. Today I bought a 14hh Gypsy Cob, which is a big difference from my 17hh ID. I know which I will feel more comfortable on, and I'm old enough now that I don't care what other people think - if my horse is happy, it's enough for me :)

Just went for our first hack on new 13.2 Welsh CxD. I am over 5ft7. I do feel I look too tall but I am just bringing her on for my daughter and she is well up to my weight. I don't feel too tall at all.

My friend is 5ft10 and hunts on a 13.3 fell pony. He is medium build (muscular not fat) and doesn't look too tall IMO!

Actually, my best mate is a 6 foot 2 bloke, and he used to happily ride my 14.1 Welsh x Arab. Looked a tiny bit tall but certainly not ridiculous!

Was funny the day a vanful of builders passed us, saw a tall blond on a palomino, and whistled madly - then as they went past me I heard "it's a BLOKE!!!" in disgusted tones. LOL

I'm 5'10 & ride my 14.2 connie x tb. I have long legs & use swan neck spurs for dressage. My legs are below her elbow with my usual long stirrups, & look fine jumping length. Didn't stop me competing & hunting her for years though. I'm no way too heavy, & she fulfilled her potential with me too tall, so I couldn't give a monkeys if my legs are too long!

Well I'm 5' 9" and ride, variously, a 14.2hh Friesian cross (V. wide, 'tho), a slight 15hh PRE and a tubby 15.1hh PRE, who feels enormous! Not had anyone comment that I'm too big/tall.
P.S. the chap in my sig is 14.3hh PRE.

If you look on my profile there is a picture of my DH who is 6ft2" on a 15.1hh. They don't look ridiculous, and were pretty successful at RC showing and dressage. You'll be fine on a 14.2, I certainly wouldn't worry about riding one that size and I'm taller than you!
