How things can get out of hand

A fortnight ago I posted a tongue in cheek comment to a friend on facebook. Little did I know that this would lead to my being asked to leave my livery yard, be slandered all over yard and the internet, and have my facebook account reported. I have also been blocked on all ways to defend myself, and have gone out of my way not to drag other people on the same yard into it.

So some words of advice that I am now going to follow...think before you write something you think might be humourous to cheer some one up...someone else might not like (disclaimer might be good, something like "This statement is not intended to cause any parties offense")...second if you don't like something someone has written...talk to them and if you can't talk to them...send them a PM to clarify exactly what they mean...and definately do not then set about wrecking their lives for something they may have written in all innocence.

Poor you, some people really just need to lighten up a bit!! As you say, if someone was bothered by what you wrote they should've just asked you about it. Sadly some people are rather childish and love a drama. Just think of it as a lucky escape from a yard that is so bitchy!

Stupid thing is my FB account privacy settings are so high...unless you are a friend, you can't even search for me, let alone see anything I have posted. You'd have thought I was saying her horse was plague ridden the way she has been carrying on. Beyond ridiculous! I know she has stuff going on that is trying (haven't we all???), but for over-reaction she is making the diving footballers look like they have genuine injuries. Still it will be some other poor soul who will get it once I'm gone.

The son of a friend had his facebook page hacked by one of his large circle of friends and among some childish remarks there was a statement that he spent all day at work on FB. His employer, a household name investment bank, would not have found out had a journalist not decided to feature this entry, spawning over 1000 ill-informed blog entries.

As it happened, the bank had blocked FB access so the entry was
self-evidently untrue but it prompted them to read all his emails of the previous six months and decide that they could dispense with his services.

Employers now search the web as a routine before hiring, so be careful

Oh dear, sympathies to you.... I have a friend who was sacked on the basis of a FB comment, from a pretty high ranking job as well. It seems ridiculous doesn't it!

Ridiculous and then some. But she has something to say about everyone. Whenever she has approached me to complain about someone else, I've just suggested that she should probably be talking to that person and not me. Oh well, if its not me it will be someone else and I will be best off out of it. I have let my good friends know that they may well arrive at the yard to find me gone, and not to be surprised. I had thought this might blow over...but it just seems to keep escalating, so here I am...and as Rhett Buttler said "Frankly my dear....I don't give a damn!"

It's not just FB, people do very strange things on discussion groups too.
I've been watching someone I know trying to re-create their identity on a forum over a few weeks now. Trying to come over as more knowledgeable than they are. Being rude about people who have been kind to them at their yard. The Internet is a small place, but in this case the people involved are just finding it funny.

This is why I dont have an FB account!! I have seen too many friendships and relationships go down the pan due to a comment or photo!!

Someone I know's BF went out with "the lads" the other week, and a photo of his face in a girls bosums was post up on FB!! If that was my OH, he would be in BIG trouble!!

I'd rather be on here "horseying it" TBH!!

I got kicked off a horse forum with no chance to defend myself with reason given "none" re-enstatment "never" some people are areholes and cant handle any sort of tongue in cheek dialogue or a debate, pity it got you kicked off your yard, I normally find people cant handle the glaring truth and will be in denial, which is where the trouble starts.........

....and the written word is easy to mis-interpret...no tone of voice, no facial expression...

I have had disagreements in the past with other people on the yard...but they have blown over..with the result of a little bit more respect being shown toward each other...

Sad thing about it all, is that others have tried to make this person see reason, and I have been waiting for her to talk to me after she asked me to give her some space cos she was so annoyed with me...all she did was run around to everyone whinning about me...now she is on a forum saying that I refuse to talk to her...and she is a site administrator...thought these people were supposed to be impartial???
