New pony looks a bit fine, he's a bit unfit as well. Currently out at grass with hay (restricted) and nuts twice a day and a bit of sugarbeet.

I was thinking adlib hay, a mix of fastfibre with nuts and linseed oil added (if he'll eat it - apparently he's fussy!) twice a day. Or alternatively buying a bag of alfa a oil and trying that until the grass comes in properly.

He looks like the kind of pony who would be fizzy if overfed (my gut reaction rather than actual information!) but he definitely needs a bit of weight on.

Ad lib hay should be enough until the grass comes through, I would not put a potentially fizzy pony on alfalfa, just stick with fibre based feeds speedibeet or fast fibre is ideal plus linseed if you feel he needs it and be patient the grass will come soon enough and you need time to get to know him without having him getting too lit up by over feeding at this early stage.
