How to be a Fence Judge??

I did my first stint of fence judging at a couple of local events last year and really enjoyed it.
Does anybody know if there is a list I can join which would volunteer me for other events and also if there is any formal training that I could look into??

You can join the BE volunteers group.

Details are at the bottom of the download section on BE's website

Offer your services to some affiliated events and you could end up at Badminton or Burghley! Usually details of who to contact on on www.britisheventing.co.uk under fixure lists

If you go on Briting Eventing Find local events and ring up the organiser. There isn't a list as such but each competition keeps people on a database. You have a briefing at the start of the day and I think they run some courses throughout the year. You will be loved my organisers across the land!

I just emailed all local BE and unaffiliated event secretarys and offered my help if they needed it - in the end I had to write back and say I couldn't make it as I was bombarded with offers and couldn't get every weekend over the summer off work!

Yeah, join volunteer database at BE as above, or contact organiser of events directly (list on web site) as some dont use database.

Also remember local riding / pony clubs ALWAYS need help at events too! Have a look at their websites and offer your help.

could also contact British Riding Clubs for fence judging and other voluntary jobs at the 3DE championships at Offchurch in Warwickshire.

Depends where you ask! Some did welcome me with open arms, others locally didn't want to know, which I found amazing!

Magicmelon....i have helped with daughters ponyclub event for the last two years, thats what wetted the old appetite.)
I remember when I was at Blenheim the year before last that there was a group of people watching the dressage who had to get together between slots and discuss the marking which is why I wondered if they were on some kind of a course...and they all had clipboards (very important LOL)
