Currently on an equine degree, in my second year, and I was wondering of ways to get into the stud farm industry once I have left uni?? Any suggestions?

I think tbh work experience within several studs and different types would be more suited then a degree...unless you are hoping to be an AI specialist, its practical experience that is preferred imho

The National Stud do specific courses if you want to work in the TB breeding world.

Twemlows run AI specific short courses (usually 1 day or similar)

Beyond that, good work experience is invaluable.

Does your uni have a stud attached?

The stud my mare went to was affiliated to a uni, and they did short courses for amateurs on breeding, care of the mare, foaling etc - could be an idea to do things like that for a start?

Twenlows as Ruth83 suggested would be a good start. Personally I would look at getting as much work experience or voluntary work placements as possible in a variety of different settings.
I know in the past the Nebo stud had taken on students or you could try the Derwen Stud.
Also look at the possibility of short term work abroad on a voluntary basis. Gap year.com have equine placements from Australia to Argentina. My cousin is currently on a short term placement in the USA at a stud and is having the time of her life.

Put a post in the 'Breeding' section on HHo
