Anyone got any tips? My newmarket got put away at the end of last winter, got it out last night and its managed to get damp and is now a little, well, musty. Does anyone know where I can get it cleaned? Not sure the usual rug wash places round here will do it!

You might have to resort to having it dry cleaned if it is not machine washable.

I have a very old travelling rug that must be 20 years old now, it was very special when I bought it and I only use it for outings, but it is NOT machine washable, in those days they just weren't made that way. I have to have it dry cleaned when it gets really grubby.

I put mine in the washing machine.

You may gasp in horror but it comes up like new, it does shrink a tad but it's too big for her anyway so it fits like a glove after a good wash!

A more sensible suggestion if you don't want to risk it would be to hand wash it in the bathtub with a proprietary wool wash.

Stick it in the washing machine on a Wool Wash

I did this yesterday with my Witney blanket (a proper, old fashioned one

) and it has come up beautifully
