I have lister star clippers.

In the instruction manual it says the air filters need to be cleaned regularly but it does not give very clear guidance on how to do this. There is a picture but I am still not 100% how to do it.

On the lister website there is video on setting up the clippers and clipping but nothing on how to clean the air filters or how often they have to be done. I have a pony that grows a coat like a mammouth so I expect the filters need cleaning by now.

So does anyone have some idiot proof instruction on how to clean the air filters.

If you are unsure you can always ring up either lister or a stockist who also do clipper servicing and they should be able to talk you through it over the phone or transfer you over to an engineer who can help you.

That is a good idea. I will try and do that when I next have a day off work during the week.

I found this on the website manual

The motor air filter shown in Fig. 3 should be frequently removed and meticulously
cleaned (brush supplied) to ensure efficient running of the motor. To clear the gauzes, a
high-pressure air-line is ideal – otherwise wash in detergent solution and dry carefully. If
this maintenance is ignored, overheating of the motor could occur with possible irreversible
damage to the motor, or inefficient clipping at the very least. DO NOT RUN MOTOR
WITH FILTER REMOVED.
WARNING: All maintenance should be carried out with the unit switched off and removed
from the mains supply.

I have Lister Stars too. The air filter (black plastic insert with foam filter at the back) slides out sideways. I take my vacuum to it when still installed to suck all the hair out of the foam. DON'T use the vacuum on the back once you've taken the filter out, as you can suck the foam piece right off the plastic, it's only stuck on with a bit of glue.
I also make sure to have a dedicated brush along (either tooth brush, or brush that came with clippers) that stays dry and non-oily (i.e. have a second brush to use on clipper blades) to brush bits of hair off the filter during clipping, if I think the filter is getting a bit clogged.
If you make the mistake and use an oily brush on the filter the hair will really get stuck to it, and then it will definitely benefit from a wash in soapy water (obviously will have to be fully dry again before installing back in the clippers). My clippers also came with a replacement filter, and I have that along in case I feel a need to swap filters. Haven't needed to yet.
