I've got a fair few big bale haylage bales that were from last year and some of them have got damaged and gone mouldy. What is the best way to dispose of them? They are very large and heavy and we don't have an easy way of moving them at present!

We just burned ours. Took a fair few fire lighters stuffed in the centre, but they made a little ash pile which is being dug in to the veg patch with last year's dung.

If you move them to a corner where they won't be in the way then I'd do that. Unwrap them and they will degrade eventually. We had 90 large round bales ruined by the weather a few years ago and we just dumped them at the back of our farm in an unused field and they have all rotted away now, there's nothing left of them.

are they wrapped? could you use them as a handy windbreak somehow?

The problem with that is the greedy wotsit that tucks in regardless of how stinky the stuff is and gets sick. One of my cobs would eat it black.

I burnt 3 spoilt bales, just rolled them onto the concrete yard and lit them. Less than a wheelbarrow of ash.
