How to do I catch rats?

We have been overrun with rats this year and they have eaten loads of poison. I asked my husband if we were poisoning them or just feeding them, the rate that it disappeared.
I have been finding a few bodies lately, so it is obviously starting to work. I have unfortunately also killed my stable cat, by mistake. She must have been catching he ill rats and eating them, as I found one that had been well chewed. That was a pity as she was a nice cat. So as a warning, keep an eye out for the bodies.
 
No, it's no good. I've tried to stop myself posting this but can't. Apologies if you've read it before.

There's a brand new rat trap out. Just a sturdy block of wood with a sharp razor blade embedded in it on edge. You don't put any bait in it. The rat comes along and leans its head over the razor. Muttering "where's the bloody cheese, then?", it turns its head rapidly from side to side, looking for the bait. Job done {snigger}.
