Does anybody know how to/ have done?
I would like to dye a blue hunt coat to black. As it was made to measure & fits perfectly plus have great memories with it of red letter days when we could hunt (sad I know!).
I would rather dye it than have another one.
Any tips greatly appreciated.

I know it is possible as alot of ex Huntsmen dye their scarlets to black when they retier (spl). So it is poss just thought someone on here may know plus I do not really, if I can help it, want the lining to get dyed as well (would like it to stay the same incase I didn't make sense)!
Will pick the dry cleaners brains!!

It's made to measure so I wouldn't get what it would cost to have another one made! Plus all the history of red letter days with it.
I think you will find it is a old custom that retiring Huntsman dye their scarlets black if they wish to continue Hunting. By rights they are only allowed to wear Scarlet whilst in service. I know a couple that have done it (though have passed away so can not ask them) & also one who intends to do it when he eventually retires! As they are still allowed to wear the number of buttons be it 5 or 6 down the front & whatever on the back depending on the last pack they were in service for. This just indicates that they were Huntsmen.
Proberly be easier & cheaper in the long run just to get a navy Patey as I have a black on now & won't look good with a navy coat.

I have to wear a Patey as uniform as I am staff & there is no-way my Patey would fall off I struggle to remove it with my hands at the end of the day.
Please nobody start the debate over head gear on this post (start another post but it has been done before) & say how disrespectful it is to family members to wear them. My family actually bought me this Patey & yes we do know what head injuries are like as my Mother fell down the stairs in her home & had a massive brain hemmorage which they couldn't operate on & I had to turn off her life support machine.

I don't mean to sound narkey hunteress. But it is each individuals own opinion as to what they wear where ever or whatever they are doing.
