Hi everyone. My cob is on box rest with a sprained fetlock. He is getting really fed up now and I wonder if anyone can suggest anything to entertain him. I don't want to give him toys that will encourage him to move around on his leg. His stable is in a position where he can see all the comings and goings in the yard. He is a typical cob, inquisitive and easily bored.

I hid carrots and apples in holly's haynet. Gave her a bit of juicy stuff to break up the hay munching!

she aslo had a treat ball which are good, but not great if you dont want him tomove around at all. you could always hid carrots or something in his bedding? kinda the same as a treat ball but without having to bash it around?

Stable mirrors can helpsome horses, but are very expensive, and if he can see alot probs not needed.

I used to put a swede on the likit holders. much healthier than the actual likits, and if you hang it in the doorway they have to fight to get hold of it. Kept mine entertained for HOURS!! :p just bore a hole through middle and slot it on! :)

Hope theres something you can use there!
Hope hes feeling better soon!

If you haven't got a likit holder you can just thread a bit of bailing twine through the swede. My old boy loved it. Easiest way is to thread the string through and tie the ends together and then tie a leadrope around the roof beams with the clip at the bottom, then you can just clip the leadrope onto the string. Don't hang it too close to the wall as they'll pin it against it and eat it too easily, you need them to struggle to get hold of it - for that reason the bigger the swede the better. To make the hole start off with a corkscrew and once you 've got a bit of a hole, push a phillips screw driver through it. Don't use a flat one as it'll split the swede!

Emily91 - Lol. Must admit tried it with ours and he did 2 apples in 90 seconds! Friends have tried it with good results though so i suppose might be worth a try.
