I am a 14(nearly 15) year old girl who lives in the Wakefield area of West Yorkshire. I have been looking for months for a part loan and have been messed around by many people. I have basically tried everything and everywhere, I don't know if this is the right place to post and if it's not I apologise. I've been riding for over a year but I can walk, trot and canter, the basics, and I've began jumping at around 50/60 cm so far. I began to help out at a local yard where I helped out for about 20 hours in total a week, as a student in high school it wasn't paid just to gain in experience with the agreement I would ride in return. After a few weeks this stopped, but I kept going to show my commitment but then they put the horse up for part loan at £30 which I could not afford. I helped there for 3 months. I have been searching for a part loan and thought I'd found the perfect one last week which I went to see. I, in all honesty, I didn't believe that it could have gone better. I thought that I was friendly and got along with the owner and the horse. It was my first part loan, and the horse was advertised as such a perfect novice horse. I rode her for about 2 hours, and the owner was pleased, and said that she was going to give her current part loaner notice and would get in touch with me. Today, she told me that she'd got someone else for the mare as I was 'useless' which made me very upset as when I was riding she complimented me. I've been honest from the start, I am not as experienced as some people, but I feel I'm a competent rider and I am looking for experience because that's what everyone wants but no one will give me a chance to get any.
I have had numerous ads on preloved and other sites, looking to either just help out in return for rides, or a part loan and I've had no luck, I feel like I'm out of options. My riding school is £22 for 30 minutes and I don't feel like it is worth it, I have tried to find a new one but with no luck.

Sorry to hear about that woman :(

Unfortunately, the reason why most people put their horses out on part loan is money, so they'd be wanting contribution towards their horse's keep, which sounds like it's putting them out of your reach.

Have you tried looking at a riding school to see if they do shares of their horses? I have a (rarely used) riding school pony on loan at the moment, costs me £96 a month for 2 days a week and I never have to chip in on extra costs.

What is your budget?

My budget is around £60-£80 a month. I know that's not that much but I have seen a few at this price.

I have. I've rung about 6 schools, one did shares but had none at all and wouldn't for months.

Sorry you are finding it difficult to find a share. All I can suggest is keep looking, keep renewing adverts. Have you advertised in your local tack shops and through pony club? There are people out there who want riders to make a smaller or no financial contribution. I've been offering a free share and I still haven't found anyone suitable. Sometimes it takes time to find the right horse/rider combination, once you find them it will have been worth the search.

I've literally ads everywhere. Even ads you know to just help them out with yard duties in return for one ride a week but no one seems interested.
Everyone seems much nicer here, I've had nothing but grief on other forums. I'm more than happy to continue lessons and they are beneficial but they're so expensive in relation to a part loan or share.

Have to tried the facebook groups? I think it's great to try and look for a share as you will gain knowledge and experience.

Hi, I'm your age and I've been there, done that (now I'm loaning I'm wanting to take the next step into owning but my parents have something to say about that...:() and I can fully understand what you're going through. Sometimes you have to be patient (Huh! Easier said than done!) and wait for things to come up, and when they do prounce on them before anyone else can snatch them up!

How rude of that woman to call you useless! Even if you were (and I strongly doubt that otherwise it seems odd that she'd initially compliment you!) there was no need to say that!

You sound really responsible and mature from your post and I'm sure someone will come along and see that. Unfortunately I think if you've looked everywhere (and it sounds like you have) then you're just going to have to wait until something comes up.

The only other thing I can suggest in looking in all your local tackshops for advertisments and mention to any horsey acquaintances you may have that you're looking for a loan. Some people still prefer to use the good old fashioned methods like these to advertise:).

Oh, and by the way, I must say I'm impressed at your use of capitalised 'I'! I think I'm the only person I know my age who capitalises 'I' in informal text:D.

I know of lady looking for a sharer for a full bred arab in Sheffield. Also a few places local to me looking for sharers at a small financial contribution of anything from £6- £20 per week. Maybe we are too far for you though especially if you are relying on others to drive you around. I am aorry to hear that you dont seem to be having much luck, I was in your position two years ago with an even smaller budget but I manged to land on my feet and have had a few wonderfull shares/loans. I hope you manage to find something :)

What a rude woman! Don't let her unkind words get to you, she sounds as though she has a real problem in social graces!

Don't give up, it's really hard, but something will come along. It's just a matter of matching people and places up. I know of someone who is desperate for someone to help excercise, but we're nowhere near Sheffield.

Good luck.

I think I might know that woman! Or one very like her! How far can you travel? And will your parents take and pick you up? How big are you? And last question, can you tack up and do most things by yourself? Might know of something just out of wakefield towards Leeds. We've all been the girl desperate for a ride of a pony!
