To all those of you rrenting private yards- anything from a field and a shelter to 8-10 boxes....how did you come across them? I want to rent around buckinghamshire/oxon borders, but don't know where one would look! Thanks all.

when I found my last private yard I contacted friends and drove round surrounding areas to see if I could see unused yards.
But with my last field I mentioned that I was looking for a field to my haylage supplier and he offered me one of his

worked a treat for both of us.

Thanks all- some really good tips. I'll talk to my tame farmer in the morning, and maybe my farrier now I think about it!

Actually, that may well be a plausible one Morrigan- I'll look into it in the morning!

You're a star.

We waited until somewhere became vacant in our village then knocked on doors till we found someone who knew the owner, they have us his number and a few days later we were ready to go!

I put an advert up:

I am looking for grazing for 2 to 3 horses, ideally with 1 or 2 stables and some sort of storage - within 10 mile radius of xxxxx, Kent. Happy to do all maintenance.

Alternatively, a yard that offers grass livery for 2, and the option of having a 3rd on DIY.

Responsible and reliable adult, references available.

I had a few people contact me, a couple about yards, and then someone emailed me about a 7 acre field with 2 stables only 4 miles from home. We did have to repair the stable roof, and re-build the store that had fallen down, however now I have a lovely little yard with 2 stables, a store, lights (which I did myself off of a battery) and water and tonnes of grass....all for £10 a week per horse. I may have been really lucky but certainly worth a shot putting an ad up somewhere.
