Any thoughts on how I can find someone to do this? I have a two year old who is a little feisty but well-handled. I have hurt my leg/knee and can't run but I'm keen to get her out to a couple of shows this summer. How would you go about finding someone? Any ideas?

What sort of level are you looking at showing her at? A couple of local shows, or county level?

Also, what's the reason for wanting to get her out - is it to show her some of the world, or to show for the love of showing?

Show producers. If a registered breed contact the relevent society.
Thanks for replying. Trouble is, they all seem busy doing their own thing, taking their own horses to the shows or judging. I really need someone to come with me to help with travel and getting ready for the show.

Thanks for replying. I just want to get her out to a couple of local shows for experience. I keep the horses at home and it is VERY quiet. She needs to see a bit more of the world. I'm not a subscriber to the "leave them in the field and do nothing with them till 3 camp".

Could you take her to a couple of horse agility or similar sessions if you can find some?

That way she is still going out, but with only elective running you wouldn't need anyone else?

Is it worth sending her to a show producer for a few weeks? she'll be in a busier environment and they can get her out to a few shows for you too. Then she can come back to you once your knee is a little more heeled and possible meet the show producer at the showgrounds to just run her up for you if needed.

If you give us an idea of area we might be able to suggest someone.

If it is just local shows for experience, I'd simply get a competent freelancer. Could be groom or trainer/rider.

When I trained people, it is a service I did, to get them used to the show environment. In fact, it led to the main ring at Great Yorkshire with one horse, but I am really no showman (!) and we came second last! It was all to the good though, as that was in hand as a 2yo and I later backed her.

Mostly it was local shows. sometimes I would ride/handle and sometimes I was the supporting act.

If it is just for experience, you may prefer this, as it's still your directions and under your care. The freelancer would simply be helping.

I would have a couple of sessions before the show so I knew horse and owner, then the show. Each one would be a normal lesson fee.

I would look for some NPS Shows or similar level rather than Local. They tend to be more well run and have more competent handlers/less unruly animals than local level so should give your filly a better experience.

Do you know anyone who shows at a reasonable level who could come and help? If not maybe go to a local affiliated show with in-hand classes and ask someone who knows what they are doing if they could help or know someone who could.

This just brought back a memory at a large equestrian centre, where I had been to a clinic. After the clinic, I thought I'd ride through a show that was happening at the centre, on a field (we'd been using the indoor arena for the clinic, but it was at the same venue, it was a massive equestrian place, used for BE etc).

My horse walked through the show ground no fuss, but I could see everyone staring. She was a good looking mare, there were jumping classes there, so we had appropriate tack on. The more I went on, the more stares I got, and people nudging and pointing.

I had no idea what the issue was, but decided to turn round and go back to my box... when I realised that EVERY OTHER horse was COLOURED!!!! Yep, a coloured horse show! Mine was a bay...

It was the longest walk of shame back to my box.

Put a notice on fb or look through local fb horse page - there will either be a freelancer who can help or maybe someone just wanting a horsey day out.
I have just done that and got one reply that looks hopeful. Fingers crossed.

I have just done that and got one reply that might be useful. Here is the youngster. Unfortunately, I can't find any llama classes to enter her for 😄

That is definitely what I am looking for - a freelancer with some experience of showing - finding one is proving difficult!

I think NPS shows will be great later in the season but I have a very small members show in mind for her first outing. NPS shows will mean a good hour's travel and a bit much for a first outing. I appreciate your point about better organisation though.
