After yesterday's rearing antics I have borrowed a stallion chain. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I want this nipping in the bud.

I have been shown two different, but similar, ways to fit it, both over the nose. I tried both ways and my boy led out past his summer field like butter wouldn't melt. Didn't have to 'use' it once.

So how do those of you that use a stallion chain fit it to the head collar?

Thanks in advance.

Through the ring on the side of the noseband, over the nose, and clipped onto the ring on the other side.

That's one way I was shown.

The other was through the ring on the left side, over the nose and, through the ring on the right side and then through the ring you would usually clip the lea drop to.

I've seen that method used - but I feel its a bit harsher, so should be saved for really dire emergencies, or when the first method isn't working

Incidentally - I use a nylon 'controller' strap in the same way as a stallion chain on Spike the Spensive. He occasionally bogs off in hand, and I can't hold him when he does go - but the strap works very well, and is a bit less full on than a chain. I feel more comfortable yanking on that than I do on a chain!

I thread mine through the ring under chin first (the one the lead rope clips to) then out the way through the left hand buckle, over the nose, then clip it on to the right hand buckle (by buckle I mean the square metal bits either side of the nosepiece.).

This way my lead rope is still at the centre and I can lead from either hand. This is useful when leading two.
