Advice needed please - im putting a muzzle on my cob soon and just wondering how much gap there shoudl be between it and his muzzle - should the base of the muzzle touch his lips (i dont mean tightly bunched up but just touching) or should you leave a small gap between his mouth and muzzle so it doesnt rub?

I have to have George's muzzle just brushing his lips, if I don't there is enough play in it for him, or one of his mates to get the muzzle off :D. He has worn a muzzle every summer for the last 3 years and it has never rubbed him :)

Pretty much agree with above - i leave around a inch from mouth to bottom of muzzle, i found it rubbed mine under the chin so i sewed sheepskin onto it and it stopped rubbing, i think its important that have enough room for movement in there.

I actually found getting a bigger size helped not rub too, i have a 13.1 new forest and i got him a cob size - the pony was too tight around his muzzle and rubbed alot.. the bigger size gave him more room - only worry is that its easier to get off.. but mine hasnt worked that out yet.
