hi guys i was looking into going county this year with my two mares, however im finding its going to be quite expensive?? ie horses have to be registered with the relevant societys- in my case sports horse society for ridden and workers? also does the owner, and as one of my horses is a small hunter 15.2 ish she needs a jmb height certificate etc? is that right? looks like ill never get up there with the best of them!

Why don't you show them at County Level this season in the Unaffiliated Classes and see how you get on and then if you do well and enjoy it, register them next season? That way you won't spend loads of money until you know it is something you really want to do. :)

Where abouts are you based?
There are lots of county and country shows that do unaff showing classes. See if you enjoy it and speak with the judges and see whether they thing your mares have what it takes to do well BSPS, PUK or which ever you we're thinking.

have fun!

It is expensive and the entry fees are quite high particularly if the class has an RIHS or HOYS levy on it - can be £40 or £50 at some shows with only the first prize of similar amount. That said we have won over £100 in some classes by the time you get special awards etc added on.

I don't have hunters so don't know but the BSHA do day tickets for their novice classes and open non qualifying classes so perhaps the hunter society do the same.

I would say though if you can do - there is nothing like mixing it with the best.

didnt know you could do un affiliated classes at county level?? im from lincolnshire so was planning on doing lincs show, east of england and newark and notts? how do i find the un affiliated classes?? yes it would be nice to see what they think of them tbh! one is a tbxid 15.2 mare and the other is a cbxtb 16.3hh mare, both very nice but want to find there real potential! cheers guys!:p
