Hi,
I have always wanted to get into stunt riding- I love watching demonstrations at shows ect.
I just wanna know how to break into it- like can you get an apprenticeship (as I have so far been unlucky in finding out this information)
I'm based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

It's not as glam as it looks!

It's like any other stable job really, but with added fitness etc on top, guessing the same as showjumping etc although I have no experience there. Unless you're born into it you'd have to start at the bottom mucking out for peanuts, being treated like rubbish and doing all the stuff no one else wants to do while you train. And once trained, don't expect to be earning a fortune, far from it.

Sorry if that sounds gloomy but you want the reality before you commit to it!

the devils horseman regularly advertise on yard and groom looking for grooms
I don't believe it pays great but it looks like lots of travelling and you would need to be a good rider and capable of schooling in at least for them to then further your training into stunt riding etc but might be worth an enquiry for an entry level position in the industry, looks really interesting. i've also seen another one think it was call the horseback centre for combat or something like that advertise that looked fun do archery from horseback and stuff.

For anyone thinking of becoming a stunt rider, some facts: 90% of stunt action requires male riders. You will have a far greater chance of employment if you are fully stunt qualified and on the stunt register, which means being able to do EVERYTHING from rolling a car to skydiving. It is fiendishly difficult and requires full dedication to be accepted onto the register. On average, of the over 900 people on the UK stunt register, only 40 are working at any one time. Unless you are working regularly in movies, you will not be making anything like a decent wage. The hours are ridiculously long and the work is HARD.

On the other hand there are always jobs working with the horses as grooms, and while obviously this is mostly the same work as with any kind of horse, there are often excursions to interesting locations and out of the ordinary experiences.

PS: most Horsemasters are mad!

When you say you haven't had any luck finding information so far what have you tried? I would say in this case that compiling a list of the teams and writing to or emailing them would be the best place to start, if they don't have any vacancies they may be able to suggest little things that may help. Bear in mind they'll probably be quite busy at this time of year so be patient
