sorry for the possibly long post :)

Right lets start at the beginning:
When I was younger (around 5/6) I used to have a brilliant instructor, she inspired me to get better at riding and she made me stop my bad habits and I got quite confident. Then she left and she got replaced by an awful woman (N). N made me jump all of the horses who ran out at the fences or just point blank didnt jump and she knew it, she just didnt like me! After a few months I dont know what happened but instead of the horse not jumping I didnt want to. I used to either stear around the jumps or just refuse to do them. N just got mad with me and chased me with the lunge whip or made me cry, so i then had to stand in the middle and watch! She then left, we got a lovely male instructor (M), who no-one seemed to get on with, but M never forced me to jump. He made it seem like my choice to do the jumps :) I got my confidence back a little and he left.. We then got another male instructor (D), who again gave everyone else a hard time but I got on wih him. Anyway to get to the point. I have found that I have never had any confidence to go to over the height of 2'6, I really want to jump higher but i just get really bad butterflies, freeze up and cause the horse to take off too soon, which causes some horses to mess up and do a dodgy jump. 10 years later I feel I am ready to leave it behind me!

Thank you for reading, polos for all :D

I think you've answered your own question - get a good instructor who you trust and just start small and build up slowly.

I am doing the same thing with my pony who started stopping at jumps. We have gone right back down to 2ft and are just taking it really slowly with the help of an amazing instructor. If you can't afford private lessons regularly, go to clinics as I have learnt lots that way. Good luck :)

even with the right instructor i seem to go in phases and one week i will happily jump higher than usual, but then the next i will completly freeze and i am looking for some other ways, i also have got a loan horse now and i can only afford a lesson once a month :(
