As the title suggests! We’re getting a lot of yellow rattle in our hay field, (we graze it over winter and usually cut hay off of it over summer), but yellow rattle is taking over and the grass isn’t coping so well. Has anybody dealt with this before? Google suggests lime. By the sounds of it, spraying it doesn’t usually do the trick.
All suggestions welcome!

You’ll probably need to plough and reseed, which is a shame as yellow rattle is such an integral part of a wildflower meadow.

Yellow rattle is including in wildflower mixes as it impoverishes the soil, so reducing grass growth to give wildflowers a greater chance.

True wildflower meadows do not need yellow rattle as the grass species have evolved alongside the flowers. Wildflower seeds bought to plant usually come from several different soil types and climatic areas and often the species in the packet are not found to exist side by side naturally.
