Hi all,

Id liek to neaten my horses man but im reluctant to pull it as she has quite thin straight hair. I really just want to shorten it and make it appear more smart. I tried it with a pair of scissors (cutting into it as opposed to lengthways) and its a bit better. however i want to go for a very neat and polished look, any advice??

I use thinning scissors - don't go too drastic at first it takes a bit of practice but you can get a pulled effect by doing the back combing bit and cutting the longer hairs with the thinning scizzors.

Chainsaw!

...or an axe...

Seriously though, I have a really good mane knife that seems to do the job well, cost about a fiver, and doesn't seem to bother the neddies when I do them....

Solo comb. Very easy to use, you back come the hair to length you want then press the handle and it cuts the hair in a natural looking way. Great on thin manes but not the best for thick manes. Only about £15 - 20 From saddlers

Yeah it's true not good for thick manes used a solo comb on my mares thick mane and she ended up like a punk .
Got my YO to do it in the traditional method and she did it in minutes so was minimal pain for my horse and gives the best look :)
